Vote or Veto? Matthew 22:15-22 • vote: a formal indication of a choice between two or more candidates or courses of action, expressed typically through a ballot or a show of hands or by voice. • veto: a constitutional right to reject a decision or proposal made by a law-making body. When it comes to politics and the Dallas Cowboys… • We like to complain. • We like to point how our side is better than another. • We like to justify our vote, our beliefs, our fanatical reactions. • We like to hate. The three best (& biblical!) actions to take as we go to the polls on Tuesday… Pray for our leaders. Pray for our leaders. First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. They sent their disciples, with a few of Herod's followers mixed in, to ask, "Teacher, we know you have integrity, teach the way of God accurately, are indifferent to popular opinion, and don't pander to your students. So tell us honestly: Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?" Jesus knew they were up to no good. He said, "Why are you playing these games with me? Why are you trying to trap me? Do you have a coin? Let me see it." They handed him a silver piece. "This engraving—who does it look like? And whose name is on it?” They said, "Caesar."
