PURPOSE OF THE POSITION


To act as a senior NZC representative at domestic professional cricket matches
Ensure, monitor and report on match and NZC venue warrant of fitness (WOF) compliance
Ensure consistent professional-level match control procedures are applied
Provide input into code of conduct processes as requested

Form part of the umpire grading and selection panel
TASK DESCRIPTION (Prime Responsibilities)

The day before the match (or no later than 11 a.m before an evening T20 match) , ensure venue is
fully WOF compliant, insisting on remedial action where necessary, reporting to GM Grounds and
Facilties at NZC immediately if any compliance issues are identified
Check with grounds staff on any preparation issues, such as weather influences, discuss any
concerns and relay to umpires
With umpires, ensure the venue is NZC WOF compliant on match day
Check on and meet scorers, D/L manager, umpires, captains, coaches, Major Association match
officials
Liaise with TV crew if applicable – meet director/producer/floor manager to discuss procedures
Supervise the toss and discuss any last-minute issues with captains


Check continued compliance with WOF issues
Check ground conditions before play each day with the umpires
Complete a detailed log of all appeals and incidents, referencing them to the video replay system
Watch for and record any incidents relating to code of conduct issues – ensuring umpires make you
aware of any potential code issues as they arise
Assist on-field umpires with any issues, provide feedback on performance as necessary
Liaise with the media as necessary, after consultation with GM Communications

Meet with managers/coaches/captains/players to discuss any incidents or issues

Provide support to any code of conduct enquiry by being present at the hearing (or by
teleconference)
Meet with on-field umpires and discuss any issues and provide feedback as required
Complete batch of reports on the game and email to NZC within 24 hours

WORKING EXPERIENCE:



To have played or umpired the game at least to first class level
Held roles where administrative accuracy and timeliness are important
Held independent decision-making roles where firm, fair and personable leadership is required.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

Knowledge of the structure and operations of cricket in New Zealand
Must have an affinity and a “feel” for the game, administrators and players at first class level
An empathy for the role of umpiring
An ability to work with and interpret cricket’s laws, playing conditions and code of conduct
An understanding of the importance, context and content of the Master Agreement between NZC,
MAs and the players.

Competent in the use of current Microsoft Office Suite products particularly Outlook, Word and
Excel

QUALIFICATIONS
ESSENTIAL:
Driver’s Licence

Must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand

PREFERRED:
Substantial experience in cricket and a strong understanding of cricket management, with a good understanding of first class

cricket, venues, MA personnel and umpiring.
