Issue 02
Summer Term 2017
Keeping Children Safe Online
All parents / carers are invited to come and join us in
the school hall on Monday 22nd May at 9.00am for an online safety
workshop led by the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children - the UK’s leading children’s charity.)
O2 and the NSPCC have joined forces in a mission to help all children
and their families in the UK stay safe online.
Delivered by trained NSPCC staff and volunteers, the free workshops enable parents to come together to learn how to keep their children safe
online.

MILLFIELD PRIMARY SCHOOL
On Wednesday 17th May the NSPCC will be in school delivering their
Speak Out - Stay Safe programmes to Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 pupils in separate, age appropriate assemblies.
Mr. S. Kelly
Head teacher
This is a nationwide programme for every primary school aged child in
the UK and Channel Islands. With the help of their friendly mascot Buddy,
they will be presenting an assembly to the children in our school followed
by workshops to Year 5 and Year 6 pupils in the following week.
Year 6 Key Stage 2 Tests
Well done to our Year 6 pupils who completed their Key Stage
2 tests this week. These tests were challenging, but our pupils
showed great effort and determination in order to do their very best.
We are very grateful to the parents / carers of our Year 6 pupils for their
support with completing homework and general preparation for these
tests. Excellent work Year 6!
Lunchtime PlayMakers
Well done to our latest set of pupils who have completed
their training to gain the PlayMaker Award
Four pupils in Year 5 (Lewis Barnett, Justin Beaman-Orton, Gracie Tomson, and Holly Weston,) along with four pupils in Year 6 (Annie Meadows,
Jake Thompson, Daisy White and Poppy White) worked with Miss Holloway from Premier Sports between February half term and Easter to develop their leadership skills in order to organise play activities at lunchtime
for younger pupils.
Well done to all of these pupils for their hard work in achieving this award.

Our next set of PlayMakers are now being trained by Miss Holloway.
These are Calum Caswell, Lucie Grice, Jessica Morton and Callum Ridgway in Year 5 and Emily Balson, Tyler Benham, Faith Tucker and Ty
White in Year 6.
This initiative has been in place since September 2016 in order to provide
play opportunities for our younger pupils as well as develop the leadership
skills of older pupils. It is one of the ways we use our PE / Sports Premium funding that is provided to the school by the government.

We have also had a number of complaints regarding the number
of dogs accompanying parents / carers to collect pupils waiting
outside school on the public footpath.
Whilst this is a public footpath we would remind parents / carers of
the need to ensure that any dogs directly outside the school gates
are kept under appropriate control and supervision.
Keeping Children Safe
Could we please ask that all parents and carers always
enter the school building through main reception and
not through any of the pupil entrances / exits. We would also ask
that parents and carers do not come onto the school playground at
the start of the school day. Any issues should be addressed to the
member of staff at the school gate.
We would remind parents that the school gate to the playground is
opened at 8.40am and pupils should not arrive any earlier than
this as there is no adult supervision before this time. Due to the
nature of our site it can become very congested on the path leading down to the gate before school so we would ask that once your
child has entered the school you leave this area as soon as possible. This gate is then shut promptly at 8.50am.
We recognise that there are times when parents / carers need to
discuss urgent matters with staff before school and in these cases
parents / carers are welcome to visit classrooms. For less urgent
matters we would encourage parents / carers to send a note to
class teachers or make an appointment to meet with staff at a
more suitable time.
