By Thomas Smith and Theodore Wilkins
What Is A Trombone Made Out
Of?
Trombones are made out of yellow brass.
Yellow brass is made out of 70 % copper and
30% zinc. The slide is made out of different
materials but nickel is normally used
because it is easier to slide.
What Does A Trombone Look
Like?
How Is The Sound Produced?
The trombone works by the player’s lips
vibrating (like they are blowing a raspberry) in
to the mouthpiece and that blows air through.
The mouthpiece makes the sound and the rest
of the trombone amplifies the noise.
Can The Sound Be Altered In Any Way
To Produce Different Effects?
The sound can be altered using a mute and you
can change the pitch using the slide.
How Old Is The Trombone?
In early jazz the trombone played more or
less in every band. It was usually used as a
single instrument. Early jazz bands consisted
of a wide variety of instruments, but by the
1930's became more or less standardised,
consisting most often of four trombones,
four saxophones, four trumpets, and the
rhythm section which was made up of bass
or tuba.
When Was The Trombone
Invented?
The trombone was invented in
Burgundy, by Flemish instrument
makers during the early 1500s.
