Change Title
Clarifying the use of SMETS2 Meter Types
Change Summary
The DTC data item (J0483) currently contains 3 meter types relating to SMETS 2 Meters. This change aligns those meter types and their descriptions to the
SMETS document parts 5A, 5B and 5C. It aims to clarify which meter variant each of the three SMETS 2 codes refers to.

Description Of Change
MIF145 was raised to address the issue of Distribution Businesses and incoming New Suppliers not being informed of which variant of Smart Meter was
installed at a site. Although it is thought this information might ultimately be available from the DCC this has not yet been confirmed.
th
On 12 March 2014 a majority of IREG members agreed that irrespective of whether DCC held this information in their inventory there would be a benefit if
the Meter Operator notified all parties of the SMETS variant installed via the D0150 and if they also ensured the meter variant was visible on ECOES.
It was agreed that the simplest way of achieving the requirement was to utilise the three existing J0483 codes for SMETS2 meters by amending one meter
type code and updating the three meter type descriptions as follows:
J0483 Meter Type
Change the description of Meter Type S2A to: “A single element meter that is compliant with the SMETS Version 2.0”a
Change the description of Meter Type S2B to “A twin element meter that is compliant with the SMETS Version 2.0”b
Change Meter Type S2 to "S2C" and amend the description for it to: “A polyphase meter that is compliant with the SMETS Version 2.0”
