Geography
The WCTCOG Region covers almost 18,000 square miles of the alternating woodlands and prairies
of the Texas Interior Lowlands. Stands of oak, mesquite, and juniper are interrupted by clumps of
bunchgrass. Numerous rivers and streams, including the upper reaches of the Colorado and the
Brazos, crisscross rolling hills and plains.
Although Taylor County and the Cities of Abilene in Taylor and Jones County and Brownwood in
Brown County are not participating in the Plan, they are included to provide a more comprehensive
overview.
