Dance Instructions
Each dance is presented with its title, its formation and/or style, the total number of
measures for the figures, and the time signature, to aid with counting steps in practice.
N.B. Given that there will be different levels of experience and different preferences
in attendance, in some places instructions are generalized to allow leeway for
interpretation, which will not affect the performance of the dance for any other
couple. An example of this is the instruction “turn proper”: usually this will be
interpreted as turning 1 ½ times within the given measures, however ½ turn only will
achieve the desired result just as well.

Dancers should arrange themselves in sets that are agreeable to one version or
the other, and courtesy dictates that we dance to the comfort level of those
around us. For the first sixteen measures, the easy version is done referencing
one’s partner, across from one in the set; the advanced version references one’s
diagonal – that is, 1st man turns 5th woman in two measures, and then 1st woman
turns 5th man in two measures, et cet.)
