to experience and relate to Betsy Ross’
making of the American flag.

The students will associate a patriotic
symbol to a specifi person’s contribution
to US history.
The students will experience “work” from
long ago through the construction of their
own flag by hand sewing one.
The students will construct their own
version of an American flag.
The students will be able to state one fact
about Betsy Ross and our flag.
Famous People. Then draw a flag using
crayons. Compare and contrast. Have
pre-cut rectangles of fabric ready to be
sewn. Have the children pick out their
background color, designs, etc., from the
red, white and blue fabrics. Cut out their
designs for them. Tack the designs on
their flag with fabric glue. Have them
hand stitch all items down with thread
and needle. Note: for students with
physical challenges, have them just use
the liquid stitch glue to hold their designs
