I. Accessing the Catalog
From Home
You may access the catalog through the Schoolwires site through the district LMC page
or the high school LMC page.
To access through the high school page:
Go to departments on the top of the page.
Go to library media center in the departments section of the high school.
Remember that you can access all of the school catalogs throughout the district but
our catalog is in the upper-left.

Accessing Follett Destiny In School
Look on your desktop for the Follett Destiny icon.
You’ll be offered the same screen that provides you access to all of the catalogs
throughout the district.
Of course, you can still access through the school site if all else fails.
Overview
Follett Destiny provides high school patrons with the ability to access our print
resources and subscription databases in one location along with a host of other
resources that may be useful for high school academics.

II. Getting to Know the Library Manager
The Home Page
The home page manages the resources that are useful links for patrons including our
subscription services. Each section of the page is carefully organized and sub-titled
for ease of access.
The Subscription Databases
All of the databases that are paid for through the LMC are listed on the left side of the
page. Users must obtain the passwords through Firstclass or the LMC Schoolwires page.
PDFs of both the passwords and the databases are available through the LMC folder
in the student center on Firstclass.
However, the links for all of the resources are available for staff and students on this
page.

Conducting Searches in Follett Destiny
Conducting a Basic Search
The basic search allows a patron to use simple search terms or phrases to locate
materials.
Type in the term or phrase you are seeking. If you know what you are searching for
you can select the appropriate tab below the find box to conduct the appropriate
search.

When you conduct your search, the list of titles will be displayed. If you would like to

Looking at the Catalog Offerings
When you receive a return of titles you receive after a search, you can obtain quite a
bit of information for each entry by examining the information around each title.
Below the title, the symbol indicates the type of media in the catalog. In the collection,
we have e-books, audio, video, as well as print resources in our collection.

Information about the author as well as the year of publication is offered. The rightside of each entry gives indication as to whether the work is available or not.
If you would additional publication information, just click on the title or the details
tab next to the title.
The “Explore” Feature
This feature allows users to access information that pertains to the terms or phrases
that are being searched. Next to the key words or phrases are “find it” and “Webpath
Express” that will allow access for further investigation.
On some of our newer purchases, there is a “Titlepeek”
feature
that allows users to view the title and gain some insight on the book from reviewers.
Conducting a Power Search
A power search is a more complex search that allows a patron to use Boolean
operators as well as other limiters to narrow down their search.

To complete this search, go to the catalog and click on the “power” tab at the top of
the screen.

If you enter more than one search term, select the correct limiter.
You can limit the search by identifying the location, material type, or publication year,
as well.
When you are ready to conduct your search, click search in the right-corner.
Conducting a Visual Search
The visual search is a pre-defined, hierarchical interface that allows users that provides
users with connected results in searches.

In the catalog, select the “Visual” tab at the top.
The icons are pre-defined and will offer established search results with materials
connected to the topic.
Searching Tools
The asterisk (*)—Can replace any number of letters at the end of a word. However,
it cannot be used in place of the first and second letter of a word.
Example: Teach* will locate teach, teaches, teacher and teaching.
The Question Mark (?)—Can be used to replace a single letter. However, it cannot
be used as the first or last letter of a word.
Example: Wom?n will locate woman and women.

Did You Mean…?—If a word is misspelled during a search, Library Manager will try
to locate a similar term and offer it as a suggestion.
Resource Lists: Are lists of resources you can create for various projects. You can
make them either public or private lists. Public lists are lists that are available to all
patrons.
To make a list, click add list on the resource list page.
Provide the necessary information for each resource list you create. If you want your
students to have access to your list, you may make the list public. Those students
looking for your new creation may access the resource list in the resource list area on
the left-side of the page after logging in.

Webpath Express
This resource can assist users with locating websites and materials related to specific
topics that are searched.
To access, log in to the manager and click on “Webpath Express” on the right side of
the screen.
You may choose to conduct your own search or use a predetermined search identified
below the search box.
Destiny Quest

This interface is more visually appealing and is designed for younger students. It
offers greater information about the collection that may be more significant to
students searching for their own interests.
As with the library search, users may conduct visual and advanced searches for
materials in Destiny Quest.
Checking The Materials You Have Issued to You
You can check your standing with media center by checking in our library manager,
Follett Destiny.
To do so, please check the following steps:
1. Click on the Follett Destiny icon on your desktop.

2. Click on the "Chatham High School " tab.
3. In the upper-right, click on the login tab and use the password and username you
would to login to a computer at school.
4. In the middle of the screen, click on the "My Info" tab.
All of the materials that you have checked out should be listed as well as any fines
owed.
5. By clicking on "View History" you can see the materials you have checked out
during your time at CHS.

IV. Using Ebooks Through Follett Destiny
The easiest way to access our ebook collection in the library manager is to type
“ebook” in the search box. This will list all of the ebooks in our collection.
To access the ebook, click on the title you wish to peruse and click the
tab on the right side of the screen. This will open the book on your computer or your
Smartboard.
The ebook in Follett Destiny offers interesting features that may be useful, especially
when using the resource on the Smartboard .
By clicking “search” in the tool bar, you can search the ebook for a
term or terms throughout.
The notes feature allows you to take notes and leave them on the
ebook as you utilize the resource. The feature is easily used and Follett Destiny takes
you step-by-step in instructing you how to use them.
The table of contents allows the user to quickly and easily get to various
chapters throughout the book.

The dictionary feature allows users to look up words while engaging in
the ebook. There is no reason to leave the site unnecessarily.
Gives you information about the book that you are reading.
Checking Out an Ebook
You can also check the book out or download the book to an ereader if your account
is in good standing. Click on the appropriate tab on the right side of the page.
