470A INT/EXT ACRYLIC LATEX MASONRY BLOCK FILLER the finish coat. On extremely porous blocks, an additional coat of block filler should be used. Avoid building a film on the face of the block with block filler. DESCRIPTION #470A Acrylic Masonry Block Filler is a unique high solids latex coating designed to fill voids, honeycombs and reducing pinholes in interior or exterior porous masonry surfaces such as concrete, heavy and lightweight masonry blocks. #470A has excellent alkali resistance up to a pH of 13. #470A is designed to fill the porous surface of concrete blocks and maximize the spreading rate of the finish coating, giving faster production rates. This heavy duty block filler may be topcoated with latex or alkyd coatings. Removal of old paint by sanding, scraping or other means may generate dust or fumes that contain lead. Exposure to lead dust or fumes may cause brain damage or other adverse health effects, especially in children or pregnant women. Controlling exposure to lead or other hazardous substances requires the use of proper protective equipment, such as a properly fitted respirator (NIOSH approved) and proper containment and cleanup. For more information, call the National Lead Information Center at 1-800-424-LEAD (in US) or contact your local health authority. GENERAL The surface to be painted should be dry and free of any dirt, chalk, loose or peeling paint, grease, mildew, oil, rust, efflorescence, bond breakers or other surface contaminants. All cracks and mortar joints should be repaired and repointed prior to application. All new concrete surfaces must be properly cured before painting. All new masonry surfaces require at least 7 days to cure and should not be painted if the pH of the masonry surface is above 13.0. MILDEW Wash mildewed surfaces with a solution of 1 part household bleach to 3 parts water. Scrub mildewed surface if necessary, and rinse DRY TIME @ 77°F and 50% relative humidity To Touch: 30 Minutes To Handle: 2 Hours To Recoat: 4 Hours COVERAGE 50 – 100 sq ft/gal Apply one coat @ WFT of 32.1 to 16.0 Mils to achieve a DFT of 15.0 to 8.0 Mils. Coverage figures do not include loss of material while mixing, porosity or irregularity of the surface to be painted, or application methods. Spreading rate will vary greatly with porosity of the surface to be painted. Different masonry porosities will affect the appearance of Page: 1 of 2 INTERIOR ARCHITECTURAL: • Flat #300 Line • Satin #670 Line • Evergreen #3900 Line • Flat #400 Line 470A ● 221 E. Follow bleach manufacturer’s directions for use and wear appropriate protective equipment including eyewear, gloves, and protective clothing. Wash any contacted skin immediately and thoroughly with copious amounts of water. Never add ammonia or detergents to a bleach/water solution. If you have any questions about proper surface preparation check your surface preparation guide or consult your Farrell-Calhoun representative. APPLICATION PRECAUTIONS Do not paint if the temperature of the air, surface, or paint is below above 90°F or below 40°F and/or the temperature will go below 35°F for the next 48 hours. Do not paint late in the day when dew or condensation is likely to form or when rain is threatening. Do not use this coating for priming over old coatings or glossy enamels. If a higher sheen topcoat is desired, we recommend priming with #697 Bonding Primer to completely seal the surface. This product is not recommended on concrete floors or any other smooth concrete surface or brick. EQUIPMENT Use an Airless spray with a .021 tip and a minimum 1.00 gallons per minute pump. Use a quality synthetic brush or 1/2" to 3/4" nap roller cover. This product is best worked into voids by roller or brush application. When spraying, it is best to roll behind the spray application while the material is still wet, so that the material can be thoroughly worked into all the voids. This method of application is especially recommended for split-faced block. THINNING Thinning is not recommended. If thinning is required for spray applications, thin sparingly with clean tap water. Thinning in excess of 1/2 pint of tap water to one gallon of paint will reduce hiding power, void filling properties, and may cause sagging. CLEAN-UP Warm, soapy water PACKAGING CONTAINERS 5 Gallon Pails and 55 Gallon Drums STORAGE TEMPERATURE Minimum 35°F Maximum 90°F SHELF LIFE 12 months at recommended storage temperature when stored in tightly sealed containers. The technical data contained in this data sheet is accurate to the best of our knowledge as currently offered. No warranty is expressed or implied since the method of application and its intended use is beyond our control. Page: 2 of 2 470A ● 221 E.
