ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT The Department of Chemistry prepares students for successful careers in private and government sectors or to pursue graduate studies in chemistry. The program provides quality theoretical and practical learning experiences in the various areas of chemistry enriched with diverse research opportunities. King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals VISION STATEMENT The chemistry department at KFUPM aspires to excel in chemical education, research and services. COLLEGE OF SCIENCES CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT The chemistry department is committed to prepare competitive and professional graduates within an innovative and intellectually stimulating environment, support other academic programs at KFUPM by offering quality chemistry learning experiences, conduct basic and applied research of national and international impact, build proactive partnerships with industry and offer effective training and educational and technical services to the society. The curricula of the B.S. degree in Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry are designed to provide the necessary professional background for those who are pursuing careers in academic, governmental and industrial establishments. The courses offered are those recommended by international chemical organizations and provide fundamental knowledge in the major areas of Chemistry. Research courses in both programs encourage independent study and research, which enables the student to learn to apply different techniques and principles in order to find solutions to scientific problems under the direction of a member of the faculty. The duration of this activity is one semester for an industrial chemist and two semesters for a chemist. Summer training is required from both Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry students. For industrial chemists, the training must take place in industry.
