EPIC POEMS
Samuel Lindquist
Lukas Ambrose
Period 1
DEFINITION
noting or pertaining to a long poetic composition, usually
centered upon a hero, in which a series of great achievements or
events is narrated in elevated style.
EXAMPLES
“The Iliad” by Homer
“"Sons of Atreus," he cried, "and all other Achaeans,
may the gods who dwell in Olympus grant you to sack
the city of Priam, and to reach your homes in safety; but
free my daughter, and accept a ransom for her, in
reverence to Apollo, son of Jove."
As you can see in the quote, its not like most poems you
have heard. Epics tell full stories. In this quote you can
see how the story has much to do with the relations
between gods, kings, and heroes”

EXAMPLES
“The Odyssey” by Homer
“So saying she bound on her glittering golden
sandals, imperishable, with which she can fly like the
wind over land or sea; she grasped the redoubtable
bronze-shod spear, so stout and sturdy and strong,
[where with she] quells the ranks of heroes who have
displeased her, and down she darted from the
topmost summits of Olympus, whereon forthwith she
was in Ithaca, at the gateway of Ulysses' house,
disguised as a visitor, Mentes, chief of the Taphians,
and she held a bronze spear in her hand.”
ORIGINAL EPICS
“Life Savior” by Lukas Ambrose
The crazy dragon roared as loud as ever. You could tell how mad he was
by the fire in his eyes. Then, out of no where came Life Savior, the savior
of the universe. He slashed and slashed and slashed the crazy dragon. All
the citizens could see was the long silver blade swinging through the air.
The dragon got some cuts and then shot up in the air and life savior had to
follow or else the entire town would be in danger. He was following close
by and soon enough he was almost riding the dragon at that time. The
dragon slashed and then hit life savior and he started plummeting to his
death. He caught so much speed that when he woke up from being hit in
the head he was going around 60 miles an hour. Then he stopped and shot
up into the sky and began to follow the dragon one more time. He caught
up to the dragon and stabbed him in the back, the dragon shrieked and
shot fire into the air. The dragon stopped flying up and turned around and
shot fire at life savior. Luckily he dodged the fire. He shot up and stabbed
the dragon again. The dragon started falling and then hit the ground really
hard. It made a crater like shape and the dragon was dead. Life savior had
definitely saved some lives this time.
ORIGINAL EPICS
“The Legend of Supercat” by Samuel Lindquist
The monster roared as Supercat showed his long shiny blade. His teeth were as sharp
as razors. His claws the size of a horses. The monster surely looked like a better
contender to the rest of the stadium. However to Supercat, he was slow, as well as silly
and outraged. As the monster swiped at Supercat, he jumped and landed beautifully on
the monsters long, grotesque fingers. As the monster was outraged he jabbed his giant
dagger at supercat. Supercat ran up his wrist all the way to his elbow. And by this time
the monster had severed his arm from the elbow down, Supercat had been dodging his
giant swings of the monsters dagger. The monster was in pain, but by no means ready to
give up this fight. Supercat was plunging his sword into the monsters skin, but merely felt
like pokes to the monster. Surely Supercat would need a bigger weapon, and the only
one that would work was the monsters. When supercat had a quick and brilliant notion,
he ran up the monster past his shoulder blade , and up to the monsters neck. He clung
on to the long thick tassels of the monsters hair. He finally got on to the monsters head,
the monster was swinging and swaying is dagger all around the arena. The monsters
sword was going for Supercat, getting closer and closer to Supercat, as well as its head.
Then in one fatal swoop, the monster, while going for Supercat on its head, cut right
through its own neck. The monster dropped to the floor, and Supercat emerged
victorious. Supercat could now be the hero that Athens needed.
