May 2013 - Terrebonne Parish Clerk of Court

MESSAGE FROM THE CLERK
Every so often someone comes along in your life that
truly makes you sit up and take notice. It’s someone
whose very presence makes you feel special to know
them. You become aware that there is something
incredibly unique about that person. And to have the
opportunity to call that person your friend is an added
blessing.
Susan Buquet is such a person. I’ve known Sue since the late 70’s and she
has remained true to who she is and what she represents. And what she
represents is honesty, dedication, and kindness towards others. It’s because
of her character that she has earned the respect of so many. And now with
her retirement imminent, I think I speak for most when I say that May 24 will
be a somewhat difficult day for many of us.

There are some people who begin their retirement before they actually stop
working. But, a visit to the Bookkeeping Department would confirm that
Sue still gives one hundred percent, as surely as she did thirty-something
years ago. She hasn’t rested on her status as an impending retiree-it would go
against her very nature and work ethic.
Her commitment to a job well done and the influence she had on her coworkers will no doubt remain with this office for a very long time after Sue is
retired. One only need look at the women around her in the Bookkeeping
Department. All have been affected by her integrity and devotion to this
office. And with all of life’s tribulations she has experienced over the years,
Sue never let it affect who she is, nor the work she produced. Her positive
attitude is an exception! Always smiling and upbeat, Sue truly is the epitome
of grace.
Knowing how humble and modest Sue is, she most likely has no idea how
she has touched the lives of countless people around her. Yet she would
blush to think that so very many of us will be saddened by her departure
from the Clerk’s office.
Sue, it’s undeniable that you will be missed. You leave this office and
department so much better off than it was when you began all those years
ago.
So, along with good health, I wish you an over-abundance of love, length of
days, and much deserved happiness. Thank you for your loyalty over the
years; thank you for the gift of knowledge you leave your department. But
most of all, thank you for the gift of your friendship.

1. Can you explain why we will not be receiving a check for the month of June, since
you want to get our pay day on the seventh? June only has 30 days, so it will automatically go to July 1st-May has 31 days.
Everyone will receive a check for June. In fact, I have decided that not only will everyone be
paid for the month of June, but everyone who works will be paid every month of the year! As the
pay dates begin to occur in the first few days of a month, you are actually being paid for the previous month’s work.
I assure you that you are being paid for every month you work. The only difference now is that you are being paid
AFTER you have performed the work. Please see the enclosed memo in this month’s pay stub envelope. I hope that
memo will help clarify how the process will work.
If any employee needs to refer to the Employee Policy Manual at any me, they may do so by contac ng HR. There is always a copy available in the Map Dept. for your convenience. This allows you to keep your copy at home for referral. The calculation of overtime mentioned in last month’s newsletter
on Pg. 4 relating to increments of fifteen (15) minutes pertains only
to the payment of overtime, not the accumulation for comp time.
All employees who work through lunch hours in order to leave
early or arrive late MUST fill out a Request for Leave Form and
check off the appropriate box. Some employees are not following the procedure for this type of leave. Supervisors/Asst. Supervisors are responsible for assuring that these forms are
filled out.
For those of you granted permission to
be paid for your overtime, please be
aware that overtime is calculated according to the time clock and used only
for comparison with the written overtime sheet
you submit. The TOTAL overtime minutes on the
time clock are added, divided by 60 (minutes) and
then rounded to the nearest quarter hour. (See the
April Newsletter)
Please note that
if you work
your lunch hour
and leave early,
you cannot
claim overtime
for that lunch
hour.

Holiday
According to the Employee Policy Manual, vacation
time must be taken by the end of the calendar year and
may not be rolled over without the approval of the
Clerk. However, vacation time may be transferred to
your leave time if not taken and rolled over each year
rather than losing your vacation time. This could be a
benefit to you if you should get ill and need more
leave time.
