The role of dietary management in canine gastrointestinal (GI)
conditions is to provide a proper balance of total nutrients while
meeting the special dietary needs of the patient. Dietary fats from long
chain triglycerides (LCT) can be one of the most complex nutrients to
digest, and fermentation of undigested fats can contribute to diarrhea.
Medium chain triglycerides (MCT) provide a readily digested and
utilized energy source. Feeding a properly formulated diet designed to
be highly digestible may be beneficial in the management of certain
gastrointestinal conditions while meeting the nutritional needs of the
animal. In addition, many pet owners are looking for a natural solution
to help nutritionally manage their dogs with gastrointestinal issues. A
natural GI dietary option helps support client compliance while
providing therapeutic nutrition.

Adjustments must be made for environmental conditions, activity level, body condition and breed size. As reflected in the feeding tables, smaller
breed dogs can require 15% to 25% more kilocalories per pound of body weight than larger breed dogs. Provide fresh water in a clean container daily.
Kilocalories of metabolizable energy (ME)
This daily amount should be divided into several small meals throughout the day.
For each additional 10 lbs. of body weight, feed an additional 175 kilocalories.
