Headington 5-7s `The Enormous Crocodile`

Headington 5-7s ‘The Enormous Crocodile’
All: (x5) SHH, SNAP- Once upon a time there were two crocodiles. One was enormous, the other was
not so big.
Isaac: Do you know what I would like for my lunch?
Marianna: No, what?
Isaac: For my lunch today I would like a nice juicy little child.
Other children: (GASP)
Marianna: I never eat children, only fish.
Isaac: I bet if you saw a fat juicy little child paddling in the water over there you’d gulp him up in one
gollop.
Other children: AAAH NOM!
Marianna: No I wouldn’t. You’re the greediest croc in the whole river.
Isaac: I’m the bravest croc in the whole river, I’m the only one who will leave the jungle and go
looking for little children to eat.
Marianna: You only did that once, and they saw you coming and ran away.
Other Children: aaaaaah! (Run off)
Isaac: Ah, but this time they won’t see me, because I have secret plans and clever tricks.
Marianna: We’ll see about that!
(BOTH EXIT)
All: (CRAWLING IN) So the sneaky croc left the river and went in search of yummy children. (ALL
MUST BE CENTRE STAGE AND STANDING FACING FORWARD BY THIS POINT)(MAKE HEAVY HIPPO
MOVEMENTS ON THE SPOT AS THEY SAY THE FOLLOWING LINE) All of a sudden a gigantic creature
was standing on the river bank. It was Humpty Rumpty the hippopotamus
Ella: Hello, hello! Where are you off to at this time of day?
Hector: I have secret plans and clever tricks.
Ernesto: Oh dear! I’ll bet you’re going to do something horrid.
Isabella: I’m going to fill my tummy with something yummy yummy yummy…
Shrishdi: What’s so yummy?
Hector: Try and guess, it’s something that walks on two legs…
Shrishdi: Oh no! You don’t really mean a little child!
Isabella: Of course I do .
Shrishdi, Ernesto, Ella: Oh you horrid greedy brute!
(CHILDREN WILL NOW PLACE THEIR ‘REEDS’ BACK AND COME FORWARD TO WALK AROUND IN
THE SPACE LIKE ELEPHANTS USING THEIR ARMS AS TRUNKS AS THEY SAY THE FOLLOWING LINE)
All children: Inside the jungle he met Trunky the Elephant (begin to lift their trunk arms up as
thought their eating from a tree and continue this action as they say the following line) who was
nibbling leaves from the top of a tall tree.
Jonny: (direct address) He didn’t notice croc at first
CHILDREN RUN COLLECT THEIR LEAVES AND CREATE A TREE IMAGE (two children become the
enormous croc and three become Trunky the elephant)
Cara: (The croc bites Trunky’s leg) Ow! Who did that?
Jonny: You horrible croc!
Charlie: Why don’t you go back to the river where you belong?!
Isac: I have secret plans and clever tricks.
Cara: You mean nasty plans.
Jonny: And nasty tricks.
Charlie: You’ve never done a nice thing in your life.
Isac: I’m off to find a yummy child for lunch.
Marianna: Keep listening and you’ll hear the bones go crunch!
Cara: Oh you foul, filthy fiend.
Jonny: I hope you get boiled up.
Charlie: Into crocodile stew.
Marianna and Isaac: (menacing laugh as he leaves) hahaha
(Children put their leaves back and move around the stage as monkeys as they say the following
line) A bit further on croc met Muggle-Wump the monkey who was sitting in a tree eating nuts.
(1 child as Muggle-Wump with monkey puppet, 2 children as enormous croc and the remaining
children collect their leaves and become TWO trees)
Ella: (resting on one of the tree children’s shoulders as though he’s sat in the tree): Hello Crocky,
what are you up to?
Argen: I have secret plans and clever tricks
Ella: Would you like some nuts?
Shrishdi: No thank you. The sorts of things I’m going to eat have fingers, toe nails, arms, legs and
feet.
Ella: You aren’t really going to gobble up a little child are you?
Argen: Of course I am
Shrishdi: Clothes and all!
Ella: Oh you horrid croc!
Argen and Shrishdi: I eat monkeys too! (Croc goes to eat the Monkey)
All children in tree 1: With one bite croc bit through the tree Muggle-Wump was sitting in. (Monkey
jumps to tree 2 as the next line is spoken)
All children in tree 2: But Muggle- Wump jumped into the next tree and swung away. (Monkey
swings away and exits croc exits the opposite side to this he is defeated)
(All children put their leaves and puppets back and return back in the space moving like birds as
they say the following line): A bit further on, croc met the Roly-Poly Bird
Charlie (direct address): who was building a nest in an orange tree.
(Three children become the roly-poly bird, two become the enormous croc and the remaining
children become the tree. The Roly-Poly Bird is sat in the tree in the same way that Muggle-Wump
was)
Isac: Hello there, Enormous Crocodile
Marianna: We don’t often see you up here in the jungle
Cara: Ah, I have secret plans, and clever tricks
Hector: I hope it’s not something nasty
Isabella: Nasty! Of course it’s not nasty it’s delicious!
Cara: It’s luscious it’s super!
Isabella: It’s mushious, it’s duper!
Cara: You mash it and munch it
Isabella: You chew it and crunch it
Cara and Isabella: It’s lovely to hear it go squish!
Isaac: It must be berries! I love berries!
Marianna: Maybe it’s raspberries?
Hector: Or Strawberries
Isaac, Marianna, Hector: mmmmmmm
Croc 1&2 laugh
Cara: Crocodiles don’t eat berries!
Isabella: We eat little boys and girls!
Cara and Isabella: And sometimes we eat Roly-Poly Birds!
(Croc goes to eat the bird but she flies away squawking!)
Children all move into tree positions
Argen: That walk has made me so hungry I’m not going to be full until I’ve eaten at least 3 children.
Jonny: Ah-Ha now for clever trick number one. I will disguise myself as a coconut tree.
Argen: There that will do it
Jonny: Now all I need to do is wait for some delicious children to come along.
Children enter
Cara: Oh no there’s no coconuts on the floor
Charlie: Look that tree over there looks small enough for us to climb and it’s got coconuts on it let’s
see if we can get them.
Ella: NOOOOOOO!!! Be careful children
Ernesto: That’s not a real tree
Shrishdi: It’s the Enormous Crocodile and he wants to eat you up!!

Isaac: There has got to be lots of delicious children there.
Children move into merry-go- round positions
Charlie: Ah ha! Now for clever trick number 3

Argen and Isaac: AAAAAAAH!
Cara: Now listen here Mr Enormous Crocodile
Charlie: We’ve all had quite enough of your clever tricks
Jonny: Go back to the river where you belong
All puppets and props go back and children make a horizontal line across the stage
All: Trunky began to swing croc round and round. Slowly slowly then faster and faster until
whooooosh! Croc went flying into the air like a rocket. He whizzed past all the planets and stars until
BANG! The croc hit the sun and was sizzled like a sausage!
