Guide To Important Follow-up Actions To Your Off-campus Password Reset This guide applies if you have successfully reset your password while you were off campus. Due to the nature of the Windows & MAC Operating Systems, you will have to re-synchronize your password and to clear your computer system and browser password caches when you are back on campus. These additional actions will ensure that you can: 1) Successfully connect to the SMU wireless network (WLAN-SMU) 2) Prevent unnecessary lockout of your password IMPORTANT! THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS (TO SYNCHRONIZE YOUR PASSWORD AND TO CLEAR YOUR COMPUTER CACHE) ARE TO BE PERFORMED WHILE YOU ARE ON CAMPUS. Synchronizing Your Password Windows Computers 1. If your Windows computer joins to the domain (i.e. you need to type in your SMU username and password in order to login) perform steps a to step d below: a. Login to Windows using your old SMU password (the password used before you did a off-campus password reset) b. Irrespective of your previous wireless connection, run the “WiFi Helper” program (found on your computer desktop) to re-establish a wireless connection. c. Once connected, press Ctrl-Alt-Del keys on your keyboard and select “Lock this computer” d. Press Ctrl-Alt-Del once more and type in the new SMU password from your last off-campus password reset. You have now successfully synchronized your new password to the SMU network. 2. If your Windows computer does not join to the domain (i.e. you do not login with a SMU password) simply run the “WiFi Helper” program (found on your computer desktop) to re-establish your wireless connection. MacBooks If you use a MacBook, you will have to reconfigure your WLAN-SMU wireless connection by following the steps in page 3 of the MacBook configuration guide here. Clearing your system password cache Windows Computers To clear the Windows credential, click on Start Run and type in “control userpasswords2” or by clicking on Start Control Panel User Accounts Credential Manager Delete all the SMU related entries. Exit the windows when you have finished deleting all SMU related entries you see. MacBooks 1. Click the Search bar on the top left corner and type in “Keychain Access”. 2. Delete all Passwords related to SMU. Exit when you have finished deleting. Clearing your browser saved password Internet Explorer (IE) 1. Internet Explore: Go to Tool Internet Option 2. Select Delete: Make sure “password” is checked, and click Delete. 3. The screen below will appear. Click ‘OK” to finish. Chrome browser 1. Point your cursor to top right corner & select Setting, 2. Click on “Show more advance setting”. Under Password and Form, select “Manage Saved password” 3. Delete every entries related to SMU under “Saved Password” box Click Done and close the browser. Firefox 1. Go to Tool Option. Select “Security” tab and Select “Saved Password” 2. Remove any entries related to SMU inside the box: 3. Click “Close” and “OK” when finished.
