Trombone
Saxophone
(Brass Family)
The trombone sound is produced
when the player’s vibrating lips
(embouchure) cause the air column inside the instrument to vibrate. The
trombone is usually characterised by a telescopic slide with which the player
varies the length of the tube to change pitches.
Trombones are popular in marching bands, orchestras as well as big bands
and Jazz music. A person who plays the trombone is called a trombonist.
Clarinet
A person who plays the clarinet is
called a clarinettist.
The clarinet was invented in Germany by Johann Christoph Denner around
the turn of the 18th century, by adding a register key to the earlier
chalumeau. Over time, additional keywork and airtight pads were added to
improve tone and playability. Today, the clarinet is used in both jazz and
classical ensembles, as well as in chamber groups and as a solo instrument.
Trumpet
(Woodwind Family)
The flute is a reedless wind
instrument that produces its
sound from the flow of air across an opening.
Flutes are the earliest known musical instruments. A number of flutes dating
to about 40,000 to 35,000 years ago have been found in Germany.
A musician who plays the flute are referred to as flute players or flautists.
Snare Drum
(Brass Family)
Trumpets are among the oldest musical
instruments, dating back to at least 1500
BC. They are constructed of brass tubing bent
twice into an oblong shape, and are played by blowing air
through closed lips, producing a "buzzing" sound. It is used in many forms
of music, including classical music and jazz.
A musician who plays the trumpet is called a trumpeter.
Glockenspiel
Saxophones are played with a single-reed mouthpiece similar to
that of the clarinet. The saxophone was invented by Adolphe Sax
in 1841. He wanted to create an instrument that would both be the
loudest of the woodwinds and the most versatile of the brass.
The saxophone is most commonly associated with popular music,
big band music, blues, early rock and roll, ska and particularly Jazz.
Saxophone players are called saxophonists.

The snare drum is a drum with strands of snares
made of curled metal wire across the bottom of
the drumhead. Some military snare drums often
have a second set of snares to make a "brighter"
sound, and the Brazilian caixa commonly has snares on the top of the
drumhead. The snare drum is considered one of the most important drums
of the drum kit. Today in popular music, especially with rock drum kits, the
snare drum is typically used to play a backbeat pattern.

A glockenspiel is composed of a set of
tuned keys arranged in the fashion of the
keyboard of a piano. In this way, it is similar
to the xylophone; however, the xylophone's bars are made of wood, while
the glockenspiel's are metal. When struck, the bars give a very pure, bell-like
sound.
Glockenspiels are still very popular and appear in almost all genres of music
ranging from hip-hop to jazz.
