Animal Farm Rubric – 40 pt TOTAL – 20 pts presentation AND 20 pts WRITTEN explanation Individual assignment Part 1: PRESENATION GRADE 20 pts: (Can NOT be given late and these pts can’t be made up!) ______ Objects Must present 5 objects which represent the character well. Objects must be SYMBOLIC and appropriate. Only two items can be printed out or pics the other things need to be actual objects; you can make the things if needed. HOWEVER, DRAWN PICTURES ARE CONSIDERED PICTURES AND NOT OBJECTS!!! Pics are large enough to see. THEY SHOULD NOT BE LITERAL. For example, don’t bring a pig to represent Napoleon or a dog treat because Jessie is a dog. However, IF you have the items represents the characters’ personality, characteristics, or circumstances, then that is ok. (2 pts each) _____ Presentation About 1 min long You will be graded on your oral presentation of the objects and explanations. Be sure to have good volume, expression, eye contact, and avoid unnecessary pauses. Have clear, DEVELOPED explanations. Actually HOLD up & show the items. Presentations can’t be given late EVER!!! Part 2: WRITTEN EXPLANATION GRADE (this part could be turned in late w/ a penalty) Explanations 20 Points Explanations for each object are logical, developed, and accurate. Students must include SPECIFICS from the book too. They must be TYPED, in complete sentences, and appropriate for school. TWO or more sentences are required for each object. DEVELOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NUBMER your items in your explanation. Do NOT write in one paragraph. LIT & COMP ONLY – in two of your five explanations provide direct quotes providing textual support in your explanations. Be sure to punctuate it correctly and use citations correctly. ABREVIATED Example: If I were doing a character in a bag for Tybalt from Romeo and Juliet, I might bring in: 1. A bottle of hot sauce or a hot chili pepper because he has a feisty personality 2. A crown made out of yellow construction paper or a gold necklace because he is a Capulet and like royalty 3. A pair of boxing gloves, boxing magazine, or the movie Rocky because Tybalt is a fighter 4. A magnifying glass because Tybalt shows off his detective like skills when he notices Romeo crashed the masquerade ball. If I didn’t have a magnifying glass, I might MAKE one out of a popsicle stick. 5. A figurine of the Joker from the Batman movie because they are both antagonists (i.e. bad guys) If I couldn’t find a figurine of the Joker, I might print out a picture of him. Stuck? Need more HINTS: THINK OF YOUR CHARACTER’S PERSONALITY, Likes, Dislikes, AND ACTIONS. Then select objects to represent those things. Another Example: If your character was Romeo, you know that Romeo is impulsive, romantic, emotional, etc. He is also sneaky (i.e. crashing the party and then later spying on Juliet when she is on the balcony). Later in the story he tries to AVOID fighting Tybalt and then later avenges his friend’s death. You would then find objects that represent those characteristics and action? We can work on these together as a class if needed. Impulsive Romantic Emotional Sneaky Tries to be Peaceful Fights to Avenge Friend’s Death NOTE: I wrote in FRAGMENTS. You will need to write in complete sentences and have more developed explanations. In fact, LIT AND COMP will need a quote from the book for 2 of the 5 explanations which will be incorporated into the assignment NOT listed at the end.
