We begin this tour from Italy. Italy has been carrying the heritage of Art for centuries. Mark Twain, the famous American writer, had once quoted about this country that “The creator made Italy from designs by Michelangelo”. From ancient Roman Empire to the Renaissance of Art, this country has witnessed many crucial historical incidences. Not only Art but Italy also has a rich tradition of food and music. Welcome to Rome, the capital of Italy. Meals: Dinner Day 2- Rome – Vatican – Rome Today we visit the smallest independent state in the world, Vatican City. Vatican City is a landlocked sovereign city-state whose territory consists of a walled enclave within the city of Rome. It has a population of fewer than 600 citizens and it has its own post office, police squad, bank, currency, electricity hub and radio station. Vatican City is home to world’s oldest church St. Peter’s Basilica. The dome of the St. Peter’s Basilica which rises to 452feet is the tallest dome in the world. The most significant thing about this monument is Michelangelo’s immortal creation Pieta, which he sculpted at the age of 24 years and when he started painting the dome of this Basilica Michelangelo was only 72years old. One more monument that adds to the artistic riches of Vatican City is Vatican Museum, which is instrumental in preserving the five hundred years old collection. Sistine Chapel is the epitome of Vatican City’s art dynasty, which exhibits its riches through Michelangelo’s Frescoes and his crowning achievement in painting - “The Last Judgment”. After visiting Vatican, we arrive in the historical city of Rome, which was once honoured as the Capital of the World. Situated on the banks of the Tiber River, we go back in time while roaming about in this city. Colosseum is considered as a significant monument in Roman history. Built in 80 AD in Roman Kingdom, Colosseum was so huge in size that the English word Colossal which is a synonym for huge, was derived from it. This huge Amphitheatre is capable of seating 50000 spectators and it was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles such as mock sea battles, animal hunts, executions, and dramas based on classical mythology. Occupying a site near Colosseum is Roman Forum. Roman Forum was, for centuries, the center of Roman public life; the site of elections, venue for public speeches, criminal trials, gladiatorial matches and nucleus of commercial affairs. Trevi Fountain vividly depicts the juncture of Rome’s history and present times. This Baroque style fountain has on it a sculptor of the Rain God riding in his shell chariot. Some scenes of the movie ‘Roman Holiday’ were picturised here, giving this Fountain glamour. A traditional legend holds that if visitors throw a coin into the fountain, they are ensured a return to Rome. Many tourists are seen throwing coins in this fountain. We also visit places like Circus Maximus, Piazza Venezia from outside. In the evening, we enjoy the Time Elevator Ride. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Day 3 – Rome – Pisa – Florence (1 Night) Today we arrive in Pisa. Once a maritime power to rival Genoa and Venice, Pisa now draws its fame from an architectural project gone terribly wrong. But the world-famous Leaning Tower is just one of many noteworthy sights in this compact and compelling city. Education has fuelled the local economy since the 1400s, and students from across Italy still compete for places in its elite university and research schools. This endows the centre of town with a vibrant and affordable cafe and bar scene, and balances what is an enviable portfolio of well-maintained Romanesque buildings, Gothic churches and Renaissance piazzas with a lively streetlife dominated by locals rather than tourists – a charm you definitely cannot resist. We take a city orientation tour which includes Square of Miracles, Baptistry, Cathedral and the Leaning Tower of Pisa- one of the 7 wonders of the world which was built in the 12th Century. This 55 meter long tower suddenly started leaning toward one side and thus this amazing monument was created. This tower was originally built as the bell tower for Pisa Cathedral. The surrounding place is called as Square of Miracles. Later we proceed to Florence, the capital city of the Italian region of Tuscany. Due to its artistic and architectural heritage, Florence is ranked by Forbes as one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The city is noted for its history, culture, Renaissance art & architecture and monuments. The most special attraction of this city is the statue of David by Michelangelo. After witnessing this perfection in sculpture we take a photo stop at Piazzale Michelangelo Point. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Day 4- Florence – Venice – Padova (1 Night) We arrive today in Venice. This city is known as the “City of Bridges”. 117 islands and 150 canals combine to create this city of Venice which has 400 bridges. From Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice to James Bond movies, Venice’s enigma seems to hold a long lasting influence. The significant aspect of Venice’s glamor is Grand Canal. We get to experience the Gondola ride in this canal. Bridge of Sighs is a historic bridge in Venice. It connects the New Prison to the interrogation rooms in the Doge’s Palace. The view from the Bridge of Sighs was the last view of Venice that convicts saw before their imprisonment. The bridge name, given by poet Lord Byron in the 19th century, comes from the suggestion that prisoners would sigh at their final view of beautiful Venice through the window before being taken down to their cells. We reach Venice Island by Vaporetto water bus. Along with historic places like Doge’s Palace, St.Mark’s Square, Bell Tower and Basilica, we also visit Glass blowing factory, which has a tradition of 700 years. Later we proceed to Padova, the oldest city in Northern Italy. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Day 5- Padova – Lucerne (3 Nights) Today we leave for Lucerne, a beautiful city in the heartland of Switzerland. From delicious chocolates to grand watches, Switzerland is famous for various reasons. But what really fascinates tourists is the spectacular mountain scenery of Switzerland. Switzerland is affiliated with many institutions; from secretive Swiss banks to the Red Cross organization which is known as the epitome of humanity. Switzerland doesn’t want to be a part of European Union although this country is known for its political neutrality. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Day 6- Lucerne - Mt.Titlis - Lucerne Today we climb Mount Titlis, which at 10,000ft, is the highest peak in central Switzerland. The way to reach this peak is just as unique & exciting. We reach the top of Titlis by Europe’s first ever revolving gondola-Rotair Titlis, in just about 45mins. Ice Grotto, Snow Sliding, Ice Flyer Ride (by availability) make the whole enjoyingin-the-snow experience unforgettable. Eating ice-cream in the surrounding snow is something worth experiencing. While witnessing the beauty of this picture postcard city of Lucerne, we also get a glimpse of the Lion Monument which commemorates the massacred Swiss Guards and the 14th century Kappelbrucke wooden bridge. We end our day with a musical evening as we go on a Lucerne Dinner Cruise and savour the food with Swiss Folk music. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Veena World Treat: Relish Movenpick ice-cream at the snow-covered Mt.Titlis. Day 7- Lucerne – Jungfraujoch – Lucerne Today our trip reaches a greater height as we land on Jungfrau which is famously called as the ‘Top of Europe’. On our way to the peak of Jungfrau we come across this beautiful Trummelbach Glacial Waterfall. Marvel at the changes in alpine scenery as we journey on the charming cogwheel train from Lauterbrunnen to Jungfrau. The scenery along the railroad is more beautiful than the finest landscape paintings. The summit itself is a glacier-and-grotto world. On top of Jungfrau we visit the Ice Palace, where we see a beautiful display of sculptures made of ice while being encased in ice ourselves. Every year, the talented ice artist from Interlaken creates shiny new ice sculptures including eagles, penguins and polar bears. Also experience the magic of the mountains at the Sphinx Terrace which is an astronomical observatory. The mountain top has been tunneled to fit an elevator which ascends to the observatory from the Jungfraujoch train station, the highest rail station in Europe. From the observation platform you get a magnificent view of the mountains and the Aletsch Glacier. The Jungfrau-Aletsch region with its unique plant and animal world is the first UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site in the entire Alpine region. Later you get an opportunity to stroll around the quaint little streets of Interlaken as we climb back down. On our way back from Jungfraujoch we take a short orientation tour of Interlaken.
