There were very hard winters. The area was rocky and full of hills, which made farming difficult. Why did they come? Where were they from? Puritans settled the Massachusetts Bay Colony in search of religious freedom. The Puritans were from England. Economy Trade with other colonies started in 1632. The colony depended on trade because they did not have good land for farming. Religion Puritans took up the majority of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. There were some towns throughout the colony that weren’t Puritan, but they only took up a small percentage of the colony. Education Harvard College was founded in 1636 in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The college was very strict about their rules, especially the dress code. Miscellaneous Facts ● John Winthrop called the colony, “A city upon a hill.” ● The Massachusetts Bay Colony was founded during the “Great Migration” time period for the Puritans. THE END
