2.3 PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT, CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR In an effort to maintain a safe and healthy work environment, The Villages Golf and Country Club is requesting that all employees comply with the Protective Equipment and Clothing policy. The supervisors and managers will ensure periodic training of employees on using protective equipment and clothing and on compliance with the policy. Personal protective equipment and clothing must be maintained in a sanitary condition and ready for use. Interchanging protective clothing or equipment between employees is prohibited, unless it has been properly cleaned. Approved safety glasses must be worn at all times in areas where there is a risk of eye injuries such as punctures, abrasions, contusions or burns. Protective goggles or face shields must be worn where there is any danger of flying particles or corrosive materials. Protection against the effects of occupational noise exposure (ear plugs, etc.) must be used when sound levels exceed those of the Cal/OSHA noise standard. Hard hats must be worn where danger of falling objects exists; they should be inspected periodically for damage to the shell and suspension system. Protective gloves, aprons, shields, or other means must be used as needed to protect against cuts, corrosive liquids, and chemical burns. Appropriate foot protection is required where there is a risk of foot injuries from hot, corrosive, or poisonous substances, from falling objects or from crushing or penetrating actions. Approved respirators must be used for regular or emergency use where needed. Eye wash facilities or a quick drench shower must be used when there is exposure to injurious corrosive material, unless otherwise directed by the MSDS for a particular material. In addition to the protective equipment, The Villages Golf and Country Club is providing the following clothing and footwear for protection and identification purposes: 10 FACILITIES DEPARTMENT Facilities technicians receive annually: • • • • • • • • • 5 pairs of pants 5 T-shirts with Villages logo 5 polo shirts 1 pair of boots (max. allowance/$85 per pair) rain gear as needed leather gloves back support belts safety goggles and glasses 1 baseball cap • • • • In addition, the Technicians receive a winter jacket every two years earplugs, earmuffs, dust masks hard hats face shields Facilities supervisors receive annually the following: • • • • 5 polo shirts with Villages logo 1 pair of boots gloves as needed back support belts In addition, Facilities supervisors receive the following: • • 1 winter jacket every three years 1 light jacket every three years. The Facilities manager receives a winter and a summer jacket every three years. 11 LANDSCAPING DEPARTMENT The landscaping workers receive the following protective clothing annually: • • • • • • • • • 3 uniforms, consisting of pants and shirts 4 T-shirts 1 pair of boots rain gear 1 winter jacket leather gloves back support belts as needed rubber boots as needed goggles as needed The Landscaping manager receives the following: • • 1 pair of boots per year (max. allowance/$85) 1 winter jacket every three years 12 THE WAREHOUSE The Warehouse clerk receives the following protective clothing, after becoming a regular employee: First year: • • • • • • • • 5 logo polo shirts 5 pairs of pants 4 logo T-shirts 1 pair of leather gloves 1 back support 1 rain gear 1 winter jacket 1 pair of safety steel-toe boots Second year and thereafter: • • • • • • • 4 logo polo shirts 4 pairs of pants 1 pair of safety boots 3 logo T-shirts 1 pair of gloves, if needed 1 rain gear, if needed 1 back support belt, if needed 13 CLUB MAINTENANCE The Club Maintenance personnel receive the following: • • • • • • • 11 pairs of uniform shirts & pants (logo on shirt) (Uniform Service) 1 rain gear annually work gloves as needed safety glasses – part of cleaning tools ear plugs as needed rubber gloves as needed rubber boots – provided for cleaning shower areas 14 GOLF COURSE The Golf Course irrigation workers receive the following annually: • • • • • • 2 pairs of overshoes 1 rain gear 1 pair of work boots 2 pairs of gloves 3 pairs of uniform pants 5 uniform shirts Irrigation workers receive the following every three years: • • 1 pair of rain boots 1 jacket Non-irrigation workers receive the following annually: • 2 pairs of overshoes Non-irrigation workers receive the following every two years: • • • • 1 rain gear 1 pair of work boots 3 pairs of uniform pants 5 uniform shirts Non-irrigation workers receive the following every three years: • 1 jacket Pesticide applicators receive the following: • • • • • • • • spray suits – replaced as needed apron – replaced as needed boots – replaced as needed respirator – replaced as needed rubber gloves – replaced as needed cotton gloves – replaced as needed face shield – replaced as needed goggles – replaced as needed In addition, other protective items are provided on an as-needed basis: • goggles, earplugs, hard hats, chaps 15 MECHANICAL SHOP Mechanics receive the following: • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • latex gloves – replaced as needed ear muffs – replaced as needed safety glasses – replaced as needed steel-toed boots – replaced as needed welding helmet – replaced as needed leather gloves – replaced as needed face guard – replaced as needed later apron – replaced as needed respirator – replaced as needed dust masks – replaced as needed rain gear – replaced as needed rubbers – replaced as needed hard hat – replaced as needed area rug – replaced as needed lumbar support – replaced as needed 16 PUBLIC SAFETY Each Public Safety officer receives the following: • • • • • • • • • • • • 2 pairs of pants 2 long sleeve shirts with patches, or 2 short sleeve shirts with patches 1 name tag 1 belt 1 key holder 1 winter jacket with patches, or 1 wind breaker 1 sweater (optional) 1 pair boots/shoes per year 1 baseball cap with logo 1 badge The department has four sets of universal rain gear that the officers share on an asneeded basis. 17 FOOD AND BEVERAGE PERSONNEL Café employees receive annually: • • 2 T-shirts 2 short aprons Banquet employees receive annually: • 2 long aprons Kitchen personnel receive annually: Chefs: Cooks: Dishwashers: 2 coats and 2 hats 4 jackets and 4 hats 2 jackets & plastic rubber bibs Kitchen personnel receive goggles, safety gloves and towels. The protective clothing and footwear may not be used for any other purpose than for work on Villages premises. Each employee must report defective clothing and footwear immediately to his/her supervisor Upon termination of employment, the employees must return the protective clothing and footwear to their supervisor. 18
