October - Alcoholics Anonymous

Thankfulness and Gratitude
In Canada, October is the month to express gratitude for all Alcoholics Anonymous has done in its short 81
years of existence. It’s a time to reflect and remember our personal journey as well.
So things I’ve been taught around this topic include:

Keeping a list of reasons I’m thankful for A.A.

Sharing my sobriety with those reaching out for help—at the group and on the 12th step call list

Always participating in my home group to ensure the doors are open and a warm welcome given to
anyone who happens to arrive

Participating in the Business Meetings our group has every month

Taking a job that forces me to study A.A. material and work together with other A.A. members to
ensure that the hand of A.A. is available at all times in all places. This one includes the local office,
the Area and beyond to include General Service Conference and our two Corporate Boards given
the responsibility of protecting our integrity through copyrights and internal Traditions and Concepts.

Active involvement in finances at all levels—evaluating the cost of the group and the offices and
adjusting my contributions accordingly. Promoting and attending fund raising events locally to the
best of my ability.

Practicing the Twelve Traditions promoting unity within the fellowship.
I well remember hearing those long timers in my early years talking about being the only example someone
might read. Better make it a good one then.

GROUP CORNER
GOOD VIBRATIONS – Friday Night White Rock 7pm
Masonic Hall
You’ve probably heard it said that all you need is a coffee
pot and a resentment to start a meeting but we knew that
we wanted our group to be more than that when it was
formed in November 2012.
We owe a debt of gratitude to one of our founding members (Kevin W.) who spent several years of his sobriety
involved in all levels of AA service and with his assistance
we were able to develop a strong foundation.
Our group conscience states “the heart of our group is to
welcome the newcomer and be involved and active in our
AA community and offer a positive place for growth. Our
group is strongly based on the 3 Legacies of unity, service
and recovery and our group conscience is to welcome
everyone that walks in the door, offer ourselves for sponsorship, participate in service, and meet for fellowship to
stay connected”.
Some of the ways we do this:
Our group gives out sobriety chips and AA approved books
for various lengths of sobriety to mark milestones in the
first year of recovery.

We meet for fellowship every Friday before the
meeting and invite anyone to join us.
We participate in fun group and family events – such
as; bowling, movie nights and most recently an
amazing three hour kayaking adventure.
mind us to endeavor to all vibrate with love as our AA program
teaches us.
Since our common welfare should come first, we rely on our
group conscience to ensure our group is operating in a healthy
manner as we have but one authority and that is a loving God
as he expresses himself in our Group Conscience!

Mary’s Ukrainian Hall October 1st. Fun, food, fellowship, gratitude!
Our Web Committee NEEDS you! If you have a background in
design or web development, please call the office for details.
The newly elected Operating Committee met for the first time
under the new Procedures & Guidelines September 15th. At
that time, the call went out for replacement of outreach committee chairs: Cooperation with the Professional Committee,
Hospitals, Public Information, Detox & Treatment. The number
of calls for information and assistance will be increasing and the
committees desperately need your help. Please refer to page 4
for a list of meetings and bring a sponsee or your sponsor to a
committee of your choice! All groups with a telephone date are
responsible to have their chosen rep attend the monthly
meetings of Telephone Committee.
The Autumn Travelling workshop will be held in North Vancouver at the Alano Club on Nov. 5th at noon (see poster)
BOOK OF THE MONTH
Grapevine’s DAILY QUOTE book. A compilation of 365 vignettes
chosen from inspiring passages in the pages of AA Grapevine.
We are an open discussion meeting and understand
the ongoing quest of “finding spirituality” and endeavor to select readings to help us in this regard –
we are currently reading excerpts of “Spiritual Awakenings - Journeys of the Spirit from the Pages of the
AA Grapevine”.
We hold additional separate men/women step study
and meditation groups.
We have written descriptions for service positions
that helps new people understand the service role.
Sometimes we delightfully hear a fellow AA walk in the
room singing the Beach Boy’s tune – “Good, Good, Good
Vibrations….” but the real meaning of the name is to re-
