Jean Boivin PhD, Managing Director, is Head of Economic and Markets Research at the
Blackrock Investment Institute, a global platform which leverages BlackRock's global
expertise to generate insights that augment their ability to create a better financial
future for their clients. Prior to joining BlackRock, Dr. Boivin served as Deputy Governor
of the Bank of Canada and then Associate Deputy Finance Minister and Finance
Canada's representative at the G7, G20 and Financial Stability Board. Dr. Boivin has also
taught at INSEAD, HEC Montreal and Columbia Business School and has written widely
on macroeconomics, monetary policy and finance.
Dr. Boivin earned a B.Sc. degree in economics from the University of Montreal in 1995,
an MA in economics from Princeton University in 1997 and a PhD in economics from
Princeton University in 2000.
Jean-François Perrault joined Scotiabank on December 31, 2015 as Senior VicePresident and Chief Economist. Prior to joining Scotiabank, Jean-François held
prominent roles with the federal government, the Bank of Canada, the International
Monetary Fund and the World Bank. In his new role he will be responsible for providing
Scotiabank's senior executives, partners and customers with economic perspectives,
insights and forecasts. Jean-François’ educational background includes Master's and
Bachelor's Degrees in Economics from the University of Ottawa.
Derek Burleton is Vice President and Deputy Chief Economist for TD Bank Group. In his
role, he leads a team of economists that provides leading analysis on the Canadian
economy and financial markets. Each year, he travels extensively across Canada,
speaking at more than 50 events on economic and financial developments. As a
respected commentator, Derek has been quoted by many media outlets - including the
Globe and Mail, Financial Times and the Economist. He also is frequently interviewed
on the radio and television. Derek maintains a strong interest in Canadian public policy
issues, and has written substantive reports on health care sustainability, education and
immigration reform. He participates in a number of advisory and steering committees
both internal and external to TD Bank Group and currently serves on the Board of the
Toronto Association of Business Economists (TABE). Derek Burleton received his
Bachelor of Commerce from Queen’s University and an M.Sc. in Economics from the
London School of Economics. Derek has fifteen years of experience as an economist in
the financial industry.

Stéfane Marion is Chief Economist and Strategist for National Bank of Canada and
National Bank Financial, a position he has held since November 2008. Mr. Marion is a
sought-after speaker on economic trends and their financial implications and is ranked
among the leading economists in Canada according to Brendan Wood International.
National Bank Financial's Economics and Strategy group has earned many distinctions
from Bloomberg Markets for their financial and economic expertise. The team is
regularly ranked among the top Canadian forecasters and has won recognition for the
accuracy of its projections on the exchange-rate and the US economy.
In 2012, the C.D. Howe Institute appointed Mr. Marion to its Monetary Policy Council
and to the newly established Business Cycle Council. Mr. Marion joined NBF’s
Economics Group in 1999. Previously, Mr. Marion worked for several years in the
federal departments of Finance and Industry in Ottawa, where, in addition to economic
analysis and forecasting, he also worked on microeconomic policy impact studies. In
particular, he participated in the development of forecasting models and the analysis of
the FTA and NAFTA free-trade agreements with the US and Mexico. Mr. Marion holds a
Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Economics from the Université de Montréal.
Douglas Porter is Chief Economist and Managing Director at Bank of Montreal.
Mr. Porter has over 25 years of experience analyzing global economies and financial
markets. As Chief Economist at BMO Financial Group, he oversees the macroeconomic
and financial market forecasts and co-authors the firm’s weekly flagship publication,
Focus. Mr. Porter manages the team that won the prestigious Lawrence Klein award for
forecast accuracy of the US economy, and was named by Bloomberg as top Canadian
forecaster. As a respected commentator on economic and financial trends, he is
regularly quoted in the national press and often interviewed on radio and television.
Before joining BMO, Mr. Porter held the positions of Economist and Country Risk
Analyst with other Canadian financial institutions, and also worked at the Bank of
Canada. Mr. Porter has been a member of C.D. Howe’s Monetary Policy Council since
2008 and serves on the Investment Management Committees of the Bank of Montreal’s
Pension Fund Society and Western’s Endowment Fund. He also sits on the Board of
Directors of the Toronto Financial Services Alliance. Mr. Porter has been a Chartered
Financial Analyst since 1995 and earned a Masters degree in Economics from the
University of Western Ontario.

Avery Shenfeld is Managing Director and Chief Economist of CIBC Capital Markets. He
has been with CIBC since 1993 and is widely recognized as one of Canada’s leading
economists for his perceptive analysis and insight on economic developments and their
implications for financial markets. Avery is a six-time winner of the Dow Jones Market
Watch forecasting award and has received awards for forecast accuracy on the US and
Canadian economies by Bloomberg Markets. He has also been consistently ranked as
one of the top Canadian economists by institutional investors. Avery’s prior background
includes experience in management consulting. He was on the economics faculty at the
University of Toronto and in the summer program at Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School
of Government. He has addressed numerous business groups and has been quoted in
the media in Canada, the US, Asia and Europe. Avery holds a PhD in Economics from
Harvard University.
Dawn Desjardins is Senior VP & Deputy Chief Economist, Royal Bank of Canada. She
joined the RBC Economics team in January 2006. She is a key contributor to the
macroeconomic forecasts for Canada and the US and is part of a team that is
responsible for the interest rate forecasts for both countries. Dawn delivers economic
analysis to RBC’s clients through a variety of publications and presentations. She is often
interviewed by media from across North America to discuss developments in the
economy and financial markets. Prior to joining RBC, Dawn worked as a reporter for
Bloomberg Financial News in Toronto covering the Canadian bond and currency
markets and was the Canadian bond market strategist for a major US bank for ten
years. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto.
