Te Whakarongotai Marae DIY Childcare program – 30/03/2017 – 02/04/2017 Base: Coastguard shed and Maraeroa Marae Pakanae Organisers: Glenys Bryers 0212338271 or 09 4058687 email: [email protected] & Trina Naera 02102689920 Important information for Parents Each morning at 8am Parents must register their children with Glenys and Trina (except Thursday 30th March, registration on this day will be before 8am or after 8.30am at the registration tent at Te Whakarongotai Marae). Tamariki will be registered by parents in a book provided with ALL THE FOLLOWING DETAILS: name and ageparent or contact name contact phone numbermedical historymedicationspecial needs permission to be transportedpermission to swim with supervision. Parents will be notified that each day they MUST register their child/children in the book and ensure that the organisers have been notified of their child’s arrival. Children under 5 yrs of age: must be accompanied by a parent or an older sibling aged 15 or above. Children require: hats, drink bottle (own), togs and towel, carseat if under 6 years old. Programme - Thursday 30th March 2017 7.45am: Caregivers park at Bakers house, via Te Waiarohia Road. 8.00am: Support powhiri for Manuhiri at Te Whakarongotai Marae. 8.30am: Morning tea at Marae. 9.15am: Parents fill in register for their children at main tent with Glenys and Trina 9.45am: Take children, fruit, lunch, water, first aid, walk to Coastguard shed, via the vicarage. 12pm: Lunch. 1pm: Harakeke weaving with Julie Toi. Prepare walk to beach to collect rocks, driftwood, shells. Afternoon kai iti. 3pm: Leave for beach (across from Opononi bowling club) to collect rocks, shells and driftwood. 4.45pm: Parents collect their child from Coastguard shed. Sign registration form to collect their child & release caregivers. 5.00pm: (tbc) Dinner at Te Whakarongotai marae for children & whanau.Parents take children to accommodation after dinner. Programme - Friday 31st March 2017 Breakfast: Parents feed their children at Maraeroa Marae or own accommodation. 8am: Caregivers arrive at Maraeroa Marae. Parents register their children in book with Glenys. 9.30am: Hīkoi to Whiria Maunga (Wiremu Taimona to korero to Tamariki). Walk back to Marae. Lunch : at Marae on return. 1pm: Craft work. Create Cairns, paint and decorate. Driftwood mobiles/hangings. Continue with harakeke weaving. 4.30pm: Parents collect their child from Maraeroa marae, Pàkanae. Sign registration form to collect their child & release caregivers. 5.00pm: (tbc) Dinner at Te Whakarongotai marae for children & whanau.Parents take children to accommodation after dinner. Programme – Saturday 1st April 2017 Breakfast: Parents feed their children at Maraeroa Marae. 8am: Caregivers arrive at Maraeroa Marae. Parents register their child in book with Glenys and Trina. (Approx .45kms south). Arrive 1.15pm. Korero from camp ranger Lance Bryers. Hīkoi iti to swimming lagoons for a swim. Maximum 4 Tamariki swim at a time. Prior permission required from parent to swim Afternoon tea. 3.30pm: Leave Waipoua to return to Maraeroa Marae. 4.30pm: Parents collect their child from Maraeroa marae, Pàkanae. Sign registration form to collect their child & release caregivers. 5.00pm: (tbc) Dinner at Te Whakarongotai marae for children & whanau.Parents take children to accommodation after dinner. Programme – Sunday 2nd April 2017 Breakfast: Children have breakfast at Maraeroa Marae. Parents clean and vacate Maraeroa Marae. 8am: Parents drop off children at Coastguard shed to caregivers. Sign registration. 9am: Check that crafts are complete. . 10.30am: Morning tea –fruit / water. Clean Coastguard shed. 11.00am: Walk to beach at milk creek – Waiarohia. Beach activities, sand play 12.30pm: Drive with children to Bert Bakers via Te Waiarohia Road. Walk to Te Whakarongotai Marae. Take rocks and creations for placement. Caregivers sign in at registration tent. Parents reunite with their child. Prepare for kuia powhiri 1.30pm: Kuia powhiri. 2.30pm: HAKARI!! Children need: Car seats from parents Change of clothes – shorts, t shirts, warm jacket Cap/Hat Sunblock Togs & Towel Own Water Bottle Need: Registration book Mobile Phone : 021 and 027 First Aid kit – Bee sting, sunblock Lunch (Cut lunches), morning and afternoon tea, WATER, ice, fruit Toilet paper (for coastguard shed and Marae) 6 buckets or plastic bags for shells / stones (no larger size of palm of hand) / driftwood (less than 12 inches in length) Muka flax for mobiles Glue gun and sticks (only item to buy) Breakfast for children: parents to prepare at Maraeroa Marae.
