Reception’s Spring 1 topic is: why they might grow better in different locations. When out and about, encourage your child to talk about directions and where you might be going. You could look at maps together. Interesting Facts Dinosaurs This term the Key Question we will be trying to answer is: What lived on Earth millions of years ago? You can help your child to answer our key question by: Discussing different dinosaur facts. Researching how they lived, their location and setting Looking at photographs, websites and books (both fiction and non-fiction) and talking about what you have found. A person who studies dinosaurs is known as a palaeontologist. Rather than being carnivores (meat eaters), the largest dinosaurs such as the Brachiosaurus and Apatosaurus were actually herbivores (plant eaters). Try maps.google.co.uk to look at different locations. Try to find different countries where dinosaurs might have lived. Keep practising the new phonemes/high frequency words that your child will bring home each week, to increase their confidence with reading and writing. As always we will send home topic leaves for your child to write something they wish to find out about our topic. Creative homework for this topic will be to make one of the following: Try and introduce as many numbers in your environment to develop their understanding that numbers are everywhere. Give your child some simple problems to solve and see if they can answer them. Encourage your child to think about how heavy an object is, how big is a dinosaur? When visiting the shops, talk about where different foods derive from and 1. Design your own dinosaur egg. 2. Find out fascinating facts about dinosaurs. 3. Make dinosaur food. 4. Build a dinosaur fossil. 5. Create your own dinosaur with an information sheet. Many thanks for your on-going support, Mrs May and Miss Castiglione
