Proceeds from this annual fundraiser are used to support many Lions service
projects on the local, state and international levels. Some of the local activities
include pre-school vision testing, eye exams, glasses for those in need, and
transportation of eye tissue to and from the Eye Bank in Madison. Other projects
include scholarships, annual Easter Egg hunt, the High School athletic fund, The
Caring Tree, and many others.

 Bidding may also be done from St. Mary’s Cafeteria (St. Mary’s School – corner of West Conant St. &
MacFarlane Rd., Portage WI) and where all items will be on display. Bids from the auction location will
stop at 3:30 p.m. thus allowing the radio listeners the final half hour of phone bids.
 Winners will be announced from 4:00 to 4:30 P.M.

Portage Lions Club
Reaching, Touching, Improving Lives
Mission - In the 1920s Helen Keller challenged the International Association of Lions Clubs to be Knights of
the Blind. The Portage Lions Club was chartered in 1968. We are a service club committed to meeting the
needs of our community first. Our primary mission is eye health. Our local club conducts 4-8 vision screenings
each year with up to 50+ preschool children per screening. We have also purchased closed circuit image
magnifiers for the elderly. We purchased a new digital eye screener that is used at our vision screenings.
Every year children from our area attend the Lions Camp in Rosholt, WI. They sponsor weeks for hearing
impaired, diabetic and developmentally disabled persons as well as the blind.
Other services provided by the Portage Lions Club:
 We help to provide eye exams and glasses for needy individuals.
 Preschool vision screening at several locations
 Sponsor Easter Egg Hunt for 35+ years
 Transport eye tissue for transplants (any hour of the day or night.)
 Provide three scholarships to graduating PHS seniors for 25+ years
 Sponsored the Sixth-grade field trip to Washington, D.C. or South Dakota for 25+ years
 Provided bell ringers for the Salvation Army
 Provided diabetes & vision screening for adults
 Drive campers to the Lions Camp in Rosholt, WI
 Provided eye glasses for mission to Haiti & Mission to Quintana Roo, Mexico
(Note: Anyone planning a mission trip may contact the Portage Lions Club and request glasses that
might be needed)
 Benches purchased and placed along the Portage Canal
 Donate monetarily to Local Community Projects such as:
 The Caring Tree
 River Haven
 Portage Food Pantry
 Salvation Army Coat Drive
Money - Our primary fundraiser is the Radio Auction. All of the money raised goes in our Activity Fund to
allow us to provide these services. A cookie dough sale in October – November and summer brat sales pay for
our scholarships.
People – All of these services need people to plan and carry them out. We are a club of action. We would
welcome men and women who would like to give something back to their community. Come in and talk to us
