The Hitachi CP-X8170 Projector Provides Bright and Consistent Visual Accompaniment to Stage
Productions at the 750-Seat Performing Arts Center
The Irvine Barclay Theatre in Irvine, CA hosts 200 events per year, many of which require a dynamic
visual accompaniment. In the past, a projector would be rented on a case-by-case basis depending
on performance groups’ needs, but after Chris Burrill entered and won Hitachi’s Facebook projector
sweepstakes, it’s made a huge impact on both streamlining and improving performances.
“A high-quality projector such as this wasn’t in our budget plans this year, but we are thrilled with
this acquisition,” said Mr. Burrill, General Manager, Irvine Barclay Theatre. “We get lots of shows
that aren’t completely self-contained, and for those shows the Hitachi CP-X8170 saves us and our
clients both time and money.”
The theatre used the projector for the first time earlier this year for ArgenTango, a benefit for the
theatre’s programs featuring the cast of Forever Tango. A slideshow of Argentinian architecture
complemented the onstage dancing to complete the mood. Another performance from JazzReach, a
New York non-profit jazz program, projected a Miles Davis voiceover, images, live footage and
interviews of the legendary trumpet-player while the group played his music on stage.
The Hitachi CP-X8170 projector offers a brightness of 7,000 ANSI lumens and features Hitachi’s
exclusive Accentualizer image processing with Sharpness, Gloss and Shade controls that enhance
sharpness, improve contrast and make fine details clearer.
“It’s been a great resource for several different kinds of shows,” said Mr. Burrill. “The HD capability
and the zoom lens are features we weren’t used to having prior to the Hitachi CP-X8170, and they’ve
definitely improved the audience experience so far.”
