Cornerstone Why have nations hated the Jewish people throughout

Dear friends of Cornerstone,
My biography:
Bar Nissim spent his career as the Instructor of Jewish and Holocaust Studies, and the Academic
Dean at King of Kings College in Jerusalem. Born in Germany, he grew up in the USA, where he
studied Arabic and Middle Eastern studies. He currently lectures internationally on Torah and Jewish
history. Nissim is a UMJC ordained rabbi and believes that equipping young adults to learn how to
study the Torah is a vitally important task right now, so he participates in this goal wherever he can
do so. Currently, he is working on developing a new educational institution for Torah studies in
Jerusalem, Israel. Nissim is a descendant of a long line of Eastern European rabbis and Torah
teachers. Bar also is an enthusiastic supporter and participant in Cornerstone's conferences to bring
reconciliation and build relationships between Israeli and the Arabic speaking students of Messiah.
Why have nations hated the Jewish people throughout history?
And why do nations hate the Jewish people today?
You must understand the reason why, or suffer the consequences. This is a very important thing to
know about if one lives in the Middle East today. It is popular in the Middle East to call for the
destruction of Israel, and to hate Jewish people. But if Arabic speaking nations curse the Jewish
people today, they will find themselves opposing God, and heaping curses on themselves.
On the other hand, if people from any nation, including Arabic speaking nations, love Israel and bless
the Jewish people, then you will experience many blessings. During the Crusades in the Middle Ages,
while Christian nations of Europe were persecuting Jewish people, one European Christian country
opened its doors to Jewish refugees, inviting them into their land. The kings of this nation knew that
wherever Jewish communities lived, they brought an economic blessing to the lands where they
lived. And so Poland became a strong nation at that time, blessed by God with peace, with economic
power and with the ability to unite their people into one nation. Is it a coincidence that this started
to happen when Poland invited Europe’s persecuted Jews into their midst? I do not think so. It was
a result of their blessing the Jewish people. The other nations of Europe who were killing Jews,
especially France and Germany, were beset with many problems at that time. Is this a coincidence?
Let the reader decide.
The Second Crusade, in the year 1096, saw French and German peasants murder Jews in Europe as
part of their religious zeal. These same peasants were killed in large numbers when they reached
Hungary, by Hungarians. Whoever survived the Hungarians reached Istanbul, where they were killed
by Saracens. Is this a coincidence, that those who lifted up their hands against the Jewish people
met their death shortly afterwards? I do not think so.
World War II saw 6 million European Jews get murdered by the Nazis. At the end of the war, 7 million
Germans were killed by the Allied nations, and the entire country of Germany was devastated by
bombing, by homes being totally destroyed. Cities like Dresden, Stuttgart, Nurenberg and Berlin
were nearly wiped out. Germany was split into two countries as a result, for the next 45 years. Is

this a coincidence, that the people who murdered Jews met destruction shortly afterwards? Again, I do not think so. It
came as a direct result of persecuting and killing Jewish communities.
Let us look at Psalm 83 of the Bible. Verses 3-6 state: “…those who hate you (God), are raising their heads, craftily
conspiring against your people, consulting together against those you treasure. They say, “Come, let’s wipe them out as
as a nation. Let the name of Israel be remembered no more! With one mind they plot their schemes; the covenant they
have made is against you.”
The Bible talks about how the nations of the world will oppose God. As part of their opposition, they plan to destroy Israel,
the Jewish nation. Verse 6 states: “…come, let’s wipe them out as a nation.” These are the very words of the Iranian
president Ahmadinejad a few short years ago. Some of the nations mentioned, who take part in this anti-Jewish plot, but
who are destroyed in the end for opposing God, are the following: Edomites, Ishmaelites, Moabites, Ammonites, residents
of the city of Tsur (in today’s Lebanon), Midianites and Ashurites (today’s Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Iran).
Psalm 83 of the Bible talks about events that have not yet happened in history. The author of this psalm clearly states that
these nations “hate you” (God). They are called ‘enemies’ of God (v. 3), and are conspiring not against just Jewish people,
but against God Himself (v.6). What is the result of ganging up to try and destroy Israel? The opposition of God Himself!
If Arab nations of the world want to live in blessing and experience good, the picture given by the prophet Isaiah is
relevant. In chapter 19 of his book in the Bible, Egypt, Assyria and Israel work together to bring people worldwide to Israel
to worship God. There is no more hatred towards Israel. Only cooperation with Israel as that nation steps into her destiny,
which is to help lead all nations to God.
Some people argue that the Jewish people deserve harsh treatment because we have somehow failed God. But so has
every nation of the world. And of all peoples on earth, only the Jewish people have promises of returning to our home in
order to serve God:
This is not because we are better or more loved by God than other nations of the world. As Moses taught: God didn’t set
his heart on you or choose you because you numbered more than any other people — on the contrary, you were the fewest
of all peoples (Deut. 7.7). God’s choice concerning the Jewish people is because God has chosen the Jewish people for a
special role among the peoples of mankind:
…you will be a kingdom of priests for me, a nation set apart. (Ex. 19.6).
And this role is to be fulfilled IN the Land of Israel. As Moses taught again:
Look, I have taught you laws and rulings, just as the Lord my God ordered me, so that you can behave accordingly in the
land where you are going (Israel), in order to take possession of it. Therefore, observe them; and follow them; for then all
peoples will see you as having wisdom and understanding. When they hear of all these laws, they will say, ‘This great
nation is surely a wise and understanding people.’ For what great nation is there that has God as close to them as ADONAI
our God is, whenever we call on him?
What great nation is there that has laws and rulings as just as this entire Torah which I am setting before you today?
(Deut. 4.5-8).
The Jewish people had to return to Israel to fulfil our calling to bless the nations. To oppose the return to Israel is to
oppose God’s plans to bless humanity.
Let us remember the principle: “He who blesses you, I will bless. And he who curses you, I will curse” (Genesis 12.3, the
Bible, God says this to Abraham). Again, the prophet Zechariah in the Bible, stated: “He who touches you (the Jewish
people), pokes me in the pupil of my eye” (Zech.). Being poked in the eye causes both pain and anger. It is best not to
provoke God by persecuting the Jewish people.
By blessing the Jewish people and so taking part in God’s written plans, blessings will follow.
