Summary: How to Make An Apple Pie and See the World is a
story of a young girl who decides to make an apple pie but the
store is closed. She travels to different parts of the world to gather
the resources (ingredients) she needs in order to make the pie.

Procedures:
Introduction: As an introduction to the lesson we will discuss our
favorite pies to eat. I will ask students what ingredients they think
are necessary to make an apple pie.
Day One:
1. Defme the 3 primary resources- concentrating on natural
resources.
2. List examples of natural resources.
3. Discuss how people depend on natural resources.
4. Read How To Make an Apple Pie and See the World.
5. Discuss the story.
6. List the natural resources that were read in the story.
7. Students will be divided into four groups. Each group will be
given a picture of a natural resource. Each group will identify
their picture and list its possible uses.
Day Two:
1. Defme natural resources.
2. Give examples ofnatural resources and how we use them.
3. Review the story- How To Make a Pie and See the World.
4. Discuss/review the resources needed to make the pie.
( 5. Write a class recipe for making a Sweet Potato Pie.
6. Divide the class into 4 groups.
7. Each group will receive measuring cups, spoons, and
ingredients needed to make the pie.
8. Students will read the recipe and use the measuring cups and
spoons to show the amount of ingredients needed in order from
most to least to make the pie .

Day Three:
1. Each student will taste an apple pie and a sweet potato pie.
2. Ask each student to decide which pie they like the most.
3. Tally the student responses.
4. Each student will graph the results.
Closure: The activity for Day Three will bring closure to this lesson; however, we will use this lesson as an introduction to the lesson on Goods and Services.
