2015 Annual Report Summary Movares can look back on a good year that produced an excellent operating result of €6.4 million in 2015. This represents a stable continuation of our performance, despite difficult conditions in the market. Turnover in our newer markets is buoyant. However, turnover in the Rail market continues to decline. Our 2015 turnover totalled €133.0 million, virtually the same as in 2014. Added value was €2.2 million lower than in 2014. The slight dip shows we were not entirely able to make good the decline in our Rail activities. with our Innovation Studios, we set up Business Studios in 2015. This step is aimed at enabling Movares to direct greater market focus towards several of our specialisations such as movable bridges. We had a good order intake in 2015. A slightly leaner period midyear was followed by an impressive recovery in autumn, ultimately lifting our order book to above the level at the start of 2015. There was a continuation in 2015 of the trend visible in recent years. Turnover in what for us are newer markets exhibited continued substantial growth, especially the work we perform for regional authorities, the Directorate-General of Public Works and Water Management, contractors and power companies. This gives us every reason to press ahead with our agenda of widening our activities. Innovation and business development It is important for a relatively specialised agency like Movares to continually come up with new inventions in our fields of work. Our approach built on Innovation Studios is bearing fruit. This was evident in 2015 in such fields as water safety (Waterontspanner®), security (Eurolocking), simulation (Grand Départ Utrecht, Fame 3D) and sustainability (topological design). We have also developed strongly in process automation (integrated design, BIM). Organisation At year-end 2015 we said goodbye to our CEO Johan van den Elzen. At the start of the year he had indicated his wish to devote more time to publicinterest objectives. Van den Elzen was succeeded by Sander Eijgenraam, previously director of the Planning, Mobility and Infrastructure Division of Movares. In addition, a number of minor organisational adjustments took effect on 1 January 2016, including integration of disciplines and a reduction in the number of management positions. Ambitious agenda Our policy for 2016 is to continue growing in added value and, as a logical consequence, to continue growing our number of employees. For fields of work that we will develop further in our Business Studios, we need more experienced specialists. Our specialists often act as accelerators in the market segments where they acquired their experience and leverage their background to guide a number of talented young people to the role of specialist. This approach fits in perfectly with the course that we have been pursuing for a number of years now. Our objective is to retain and continually develop our workforce. All in all, we have an ambitious agenda that builds on our accomplishments in previous years and is in line with the long-term strategy envisaged by Movares. As a company, we want to deliver optimum results through high-quality consultancy, resulting in a good return. We are convinced that this will help us remain an attractive company, both for our customers and our employees. Our employees hold 70% of our shares, making them co-owners of Movares.
