Explain the difference between transverse and
longitudinal waves.
In this question you will be assessed on using
good English, organising information clearly and
using specialist terms where appropriate.
Transverse waves are examples of waves where the
energy moves at right angles to the direction of the
wave. A perfect example of this would be a water
wave which you can often see bobbing up and down.
A longitudinal wave is example of a wave where the
energy moves forward in the same direction as the
wave. An example of this would be sound. You can see
this if you watch a speaker carefully.
