2016 China-US Rising Star Study Tour Introduction Under the framework of China-U.S. High Level Consultation on People to People Exchange (CPE), the Study Tour is considered to be a significant China-U.S. student exchange program in the vocational education sector. This year, themed Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the study tour was successfully held between August 8th and 20th in Beijing, Xi’an and Nanjing. 14 US teachers and students and 12 Chinese teachers and students joined in the Study Tour. The 14-day study tour is a special opportunity for both Chinese and American students to discover modern and traditional China. All the participants were provided with amounts of amazing activities such as skills learning, industry visits and unique culture experiences. Overview of Activities In order to provide enhanced cultural and education experiences for all the participants, 2016 Study Tour arranged a variety of significant activities as follows: 1. Industry Visits Beijing: CERNET and Perfect World CERNET, located in Tsinghua Innovation Park, is the first nationwide education and research computer network in China. The CERNET project is funded by the Chinese government and directly managed by the Chinese Ministry of Education. Perfect World is a China-based video game company. Founded in 2004, the company aims to develop games with Chinese characteristics Xi’an: G Aero Technology On Aug. 15th, participants of the Study Tour visited a training base of G Aero Technology. Founded in 2009, G Aero Technology is a company focusing on aviation, and it is located in Yanliang National Aviation Industry Base in Xi’an City. Nanjing: Zidong International Innovation Park During the tour, a workshop themed Environmental-friendly Entrepreneurship Program was held at YunSidun Intelligent Technology Company. Founded in 2013, the company focus on recycling technology and products, and this company was founded by YUN Shuxian, a graduate from Nanjing Institute of Industry of Technology. In the workshop, YUN shared his entrepreneurship experience and had in-depth discussion with participants of the study tour. 2. Cultural Experiences The study tour brought all the participants to the most important and charming historical cities like Beijing, Xi’an and Nanjing where they had opportunities to feel China by visiting her historical wonders and natural view. In Beijing, they were charmed by architectural grandeur and historical significance of the Forbidden City and the Great Wall. In Xi’an, Terra-cotta Warriors and Han Yang Ling Mausoleum brought them a flash back to Qin and Han Dynasties. In Nanjing, they were fascinated by exquisite technology, elegant patterns and smooth texture of Yun brocades, and the natural landscape and cultural landscape of Nanjing Museum. In addition, Chinese martial arts, calligraphy and Han Chinese clothing were also listed in the activities. 3. Skill Learning As a study tour featuring vocational education and applied learning, the tour provided a lot of skills learning for participants, such as 3D printing, assembly of model airplane and aircraft maintenance. Students with majors, concentration and/or interest in any form of arts and design Cost: The Rising Star program will cover all the program related expenses in China for the participants, including room and board. Cost to students will be approximately $2500.00 based on: -Visa application fee ($140 + service fee of approx.. $50) -Program fee ($150) -International airfare (approximately $1800-$2000) -Personal funds for non-program spending in China How do I apply?
