Migrating iLaw Advocate v9.5 Revised January 2015 The key steps are: Download the install files to the new computer you now want to use Installing the SQL Server Database for iLaw Advocate Install iLaw Advocate Perform a backup of the database on the old computer Restore the database on the new iLaw Advocate installation and copy the Documents Call Anya for a license file or unlock > Download the install files to the new computer you now want to use http://www.anyadesigns.co.uk/download/Gradfees_Database_Installer.exe http://www.ilawsoftware.co.uk/download/iLawAdvocate9.5.181-package.exe > Installing the SQL Server for iLaw Advocate The Anya iLaw Advocate program keeps all your claim information in a SQL Server database. This database should be created prior to installing GradFees. Start the database installation by running Gradfees_Database_Installer.exe NOTE: Don’t worry that the file refers to GradFees. This file is used to install the database for iLaw GradFees and iLaw Advocate. When the database has been installed, you will see the following screen: If the installation suddenly ends and you did not see the above screen then it is most likely the installation of the database failed due to there being a pending reboot required from the installation of Windows update or other software. In this situation, do not proceed to installing the iLaw Advocate Application, but restart your computer and re-run the GradFees_Database_Installer again. The following message will have been displayed briefly, but if you were not watching the screen it’s possible you did not see it. To check the SQL Server for iLaw Advocate has installed, go to Control Panel, Program Features and you should see the GradFees Database Installer shows in the list. > Install iLaw Advocate You now need to run the GradFees9.3.161-package.exe file. First of all it will extract the actual installer exe and a help guide to backing up the database. Right click on the Install file and select Run as administrator. When the Install Wizard appears, please click on the Next button. You will now see the Licence Agreement screen. Please click in the radio button by I accept the terms in the license agreement and then click on the Next button. When the Ready to Install screen appears, please click on the Install button. You will now see the installation progress screen. When the installation is completed, you will see this final screen. Click once on the Finish button. > Perform a backup of the database on the old computer On your previous computer, click on the Back-up and Restore app from the Start Menu: (You can also download the BURT tool from this location:) http://www.ilawsoftware.co.uk/download/BackupRestoreTool.exe Start the Backup and Restore Tool. You will see the following screen. To use the BURT tool, follow these steps. Note that the number of each step below matches the number on the screen above which is highlighted: 1. Within the SQL Server Details section group click the ILAW ADVOCATE radio button. Despite the wording of screen, you are actually selecting the database to be backed up. Clicking this button will change the details in SQL Server details section. 2. Click the Connect button located within the SQL Server Details section. This will verify the tool can talk to the database. 3. In the Create a Backup section use the Database to backup drop down and select iLaw Advocate from the list. 4. Still within Create Backup section, the Backup File textbox needs to contain the location you wish to save your backup to. If the current location shown is OK, leave this alone. Otherwise type the path and filename for the new location OR browse for it by clicking on the “…” button to the right of this text box. 5. Finally, click the Backup to start the process. Please note: this process should only be used in situations where your standard backup procedures aren’t working. It isn’t a substitute for those procedures and steps should be taken to reinstate your normal backup procedures as soon as possible. > Restore the database on the new iLaw Advocate installation and copy the Documents Start the Backup and Restore Tool on the new installation. 1. Within the SQL Server Details section click the iLaw Advocate radio button. Despite the wording of screen, you are actually selecting the database to be backed up. 2. Click the Connect button located within the SQL Server Details section. This will verify the tool can talk to the database. 3. In the section, Restore a previously created Backup use the “…” box to find the backup file created on the previous computer and select it so it’s path shows in the BackupFile: box. 4. Don’t change the Prefix to use (GF_) or the Restore into Database (ADVOCATE). 5. Click on Restore. In the Progress/ Feedback section at the bottom of the screen you will see the success of the restoration and what user accounts are available to us. If you know that you’ve changed the user accounts in the past and cannot remember what they are you should take a note of these now. Close the BURT tool. 6. Copy the Documents folder from your previous computer to the new iLaw Advocate installation Open the Configure screen from Start-All Programs-Anya Designs-Configure on your previous computer. The Shared Folder is where the Documents screen will be. Copy the “Documents” folder to your new computer using a USB device or by transferring it across your firm’s network and copy it to the location shown in the shared folder location on the new computer. > Call Anya for a license file or unlock The last step is to call us on 0845 259 1276 for an unlock code or to have a license installed.
