Challenge Course Director
One Sentence Description: The challenge course director oversees the safe operation of our challenge
course, helps with the media needs of camp, and contributes to the program of camp.
Full Description: This person is responsible for the overall safety of staff and campers on Camp
Elkanah’s challenge course including our low ropes elements, giant swing, and zip line. S/he will
train counselors on how to safely and productively use the low ropes course with their campers.
Additionally, this person also assists in the media of camp during chapel time. No previous
experience is necessary, but it is helpful. All training (for the challenge course and media tasks)
is provided by Camp Elkanah. This person is detail-oriented, fun, and teachable.
Key Responsibilities:
 Lead by example in the areas of personal spiritual disciplines (namely Bible reading and
prayer), positive attitude, and service to others.
 Train counselors on each low ropes element specifically focusing on safety.
 Write a weekly low ropes schedule for counselors to use, rotating cabins around different
elements.
 Operate the zip line and giant swing while overseeing high-school volunteers operating
alongside.
 Control the soundboard and projection (song lyrics, videos, PowerPoint) during chapel time.
 Work with the worship leader taking pictures of camp and filming as directed by the program
lead/emcee.
 Participate in camp skits and other upfront activities.
 Consistently pray with and for other members of the program team.
 Be willing to lead a time focused on spiritual matters (devotion, morning workshop, prayer
time, personal testimony, etc.).
 Attend all morning meetings.
 As far as possible, maintain appropriate and positive relationships with all camp staff.
 Have a good time, be goofy, and spread camp silliness.
