Sonja J. Gundersen Awards
Awarded to two students in the Faculty of Law who demonstrate financial need. Preference will be
given to a student registered in the mature student program. This fund was established through
Foundation Western. Value: 2 @ $1,000 each
Canadian Federation of University Women London Club Memorial Awards
Awarded to full-time undergraduate female students entering second year studies in any faculty
who have been admitted to Western as mature students and whose average falls within the 70-79%
range after Year I. Recipients may retain this award until graduation provided that their academic
average does not fall below 70%. New students will not be selected unless one of the current
award holders fails to qualify or graduates. These awards were created through the generosity of
the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW)-London Club. Value: 2 at $2,000 each
M. E. (Peggy) Collins Memorial Undergraduate Award
Awarded to an undergraduate student who is taking one or more part-time credit courses at
Western. Selection will be based on academic achievement in courses completed and preference
will be given to individuals who are in the workforce full time; have family commitments; are
involved in the community at Western or the community at large. Applications are available
through the Office of the Registrar's web site and must be completed by September 30.
Applications must be accompanied by an essay (max. 250 words) describing the candidate's
motivation for returning to school as a mature student and any commitments to work, family and
community involvement. Selection will be made by Student Financial Services in consultation with
a committee with undergraduate and graduate faculty representation. This award was made
possible by generous donations from the family, friends and colleagues of Peggy Collins, a longtime employee of Western. It is hoped that this award will help to continue Peggy's unending
efforts to support others in their meaningful struggles to balance family, career and personal
development. Established through Foundation Western. Value: 1 at $2,000

MATURE STUDENT
Margaret Rand Memorial Award in Visual Arts
Awarded to a full-time or part-time student (minimum 3 courses) in year 2 or beyond of an Honors
Bachelor degree with an Honors Specialization or double Major in Visual Arts; a Four-Year
Bachelor degree with a Specialization or Major in Visual Arts; or, a Three-Year Bachelor degree
with a Major or double Minor in Visual Arts. Candidates must have achieved an 80% average in
their last full year of study (5 courses or equivalent taken part-time) and demonstrate financial
need. Preference will be given to candidates who registered at Western as mature students. An
online financial assistance application is available through Student Center and must be submitted
by September 30th. The Office of the Registrar will determine financial need and the Chair of the
Department of Visual Arts will select the recipient. This award was established with Foundation
Western by Dr. Charles G. Rand in memory of his wife Margaret Rand. Value: 1 at $1,500

Mary Campbell Memorial Award for Mature Students
Awarded to a full-time undergraduate student in any year of any degree program who was admitted
to Western as a Mature Student, based on financial need and academic achievement (minimum
70% average). Preference will be given to female candidates. Applications can be accessed online
through the Registrarial Services Web site and must be submitted by September 30. This award
was established by memorial donations from the friends and colleagues of Mary Campbell, a
valued employee of Western and a London community leader, through the Mary Campbell Trust
Fund. .Value: 1 at $800. This award is offered through the Ontario Trust for Student Support
(OTSS) program, and recipients must meet Ontario residency requirements.

Betty Blackwell Bursary
Awarded to a full-time undergraduate student who applied to Western as a mature student and is
now in Year 2 or higher of any degree program offered by the Faculty of Arts, based on financial
need. This bursary was established by the Blackwell Family through Foundation Western. Value: 1
at $1,100
Mature Student Advisor Bursary
Awarded to a part-time or full-time undergraduate student in any year of any undergraduate degree
program who was admitted to Western as a Mature Applicant and who has demonstrated financial
need. Applications can be accessed online through the Office of the Registrar's Web site and must
be submitted by October 31. The Registrar's Office will select the recipient. This award was
established by Donna Moore (MEd 86), a valued employee of Western and a long-term Mature
Student Advisor.
Value: 1 at $1,000
Angela Armitt Medals
Awarded twice-yearly to a part-time student with the highest graduating average in any program.
Students must have taken at least 9.0 courses at The University of Western Ontario on a part-time
basis, including the final 5.0 courses of the program.
Value: 2 at $350 plus gold medal (valued at approximately $130)
Undergraduate Student Supported (OSOTF) Bursaries
Awarded to full-time or part-time students registered in any year in any faculty who demonstrate
financial need. This bursary is made possible by generous contributions from friends of The
University of Western Ontario. Value: Up to the value of tuition (excluding ancillary activity
fees)
Helen M. Hetherington Bursaries
Available to full-time and part-time students with mobility, visual or hearing impairments; learning
disabilities or chronic illnesses. Established by Foundation Western with a bequest from the late
Helen M. Hetherington. Value: 4 at $1,200
Deborah Murphy Memorial Bursary
Available to a part-time student who is also a single parent. This award was established to honour
the memory of Deborah Murphy, who provided 8 years of exemplary service as secretary and
administrative officer in the Faculty of Part-Time and Continuing Education. Value: 1 @ $450
Thomas N. Guinsburg Bursary
Available to any part-time student registered in a certificate or diploma program offered by a
University Faculty in partnership with the Western Centre for Continuing Studies, or a 15.0 course
program offered by the Faculties of Arts and Humanities, Health Sciences, Information & Media
Studies, Science, or Social Science who can demonstrate financial need. The award was established
in recognition of Dean Thomas N. Guinsburg's outstanding leadership of the Faculty of Part-Time
and Continuing Education, his unparalleled dedication to addressing the needs of part-time students
and his persistent efforts to provide opportunities for lifelong learning. Value: 1 at $400

Charlie Hanes Student Award
Awarded annually to undergraduate students in any year, of any program (full-time or part-time),
with a minimum 70% average, who have an identified disability such as a hearing impairment,
visual impairment, learning disability or physical disability and demonstrated financial need.
Students must be registered with the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities. Online
financial assistance applications can be accessed through Student Center and must be submitted by
September 30th. The Office of the Registrar will select the recipients. This award was established
through the generosity of an anonymous donor (BA '56). Value: $1,000 allotted for each 1.0

Undergraduate Student-Supported Bursaries
Awarded to full-time or part-time undergraduate students registered in any year in any faculty who
demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to students who do not meet OSOTF
residency requirements. International students can also be considered. These bursaries were made
possible by generous donations from undergraduate students through the University Students'
Council. Value: Each bursary will be up to the value of tuition (excluding ancillary fees). The
number and value of bursaries will vary as funds permit.
Undergraduate Student Supported OSOTF II Bursaries
Awarded to full-time or part-time students registered in any year in any faculty who demonstrate
financial need. These bursaries are made possible by generous contributions from undergraduate
students through the University Students' Council. Value: Up to the value of tuition (excluding
ancillary activity fees).

UWO Part-Time Scholarships
Awarded annually in the Fall to part-time undergraduate students beyond Year 1 in the Faculties of
Arts and Humanities, Health Sciences, Engineering, Information and Media Studies, Music,
Science, and Social Science, who are registered in a minimum of 1.0 course and who are pursuing
their first degree at Western. Candidates must have been registered in a minimum of 1.0 course in
the previous academic year (September to August) and have at least an 80% cumulative
average.
Value: $1,000 per award, number of awards will vary annually based on funds available.

Special Institutional Bursary
The Institutional Special Bursary Program (ISBP) is intended to help students with low family
incomes to participate in post-secondary education on a part-time basis. Students eligible for this
program are unable to attend on a full-time basis due to family responsibilities or personal
circumstances. ISBP is designed mainly for students with dependents who are in receipt of
assistance through Ontario Works or the Ontario Disability Support Program or who have low
family incomes. ISBP is intended to help students obtain their first degree, diploma, or training
program certificate, and provides financial assistance for educational costs. The maximum amount
of bursary you can receive is $2,500 per academic year.

Aboriginal Postsecondary Education and Training (PSET) Bursary
Awarded to full-time or part-time undergraduate Aboriginal students in any year or program who
are in financial need. Candidates must complete a financial assistance application, which is
available online through Student Center, by January 31. Recipients must meet Ontario residency
requirements. Value: The value of each bursary will vary between $1,000 and $3,500
