Dr. Biswanath Banerjee completed his graduation and postgraduation from Visva-Bharati
University, Santiniketan, West Bengal. He qualified the UGC NET in 2013 and was awarded the
Ph.D. degree in 2015 from Visva-Bharati.
Areas of Research Interest:
Dr. Banerjee’s areas of interest include Postcolonial studies, diasporic literature, partition
literature, late nineteenth and early twentieth century Indian English writing, Bengal
Renaissance, history of science and Tagore studies.
Research Experience (Ph.D.):
 Awarded the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (according to the latest UGC Ph.D.
Regulations, 2009) in June, 2015 from the Department of English, Visva-Bharati on
presentation of the Dissertation, titled, “Science, Nation, Literature: Acharya Prafulla
Chandra Ray and Postcoloniality.”
Research Experiences (other than Ph.D.):
 Worked as a Researcher in the UGC-UKIERI Project titled— “Scottish Orientalism
and the Indian Renaissance, the Continuum of Ideas: Tagore and his Circle”,
coordinated jointly by Edinburgh Napier University, Scotland and Visva-Bharati
University, Santiniketan, India in 2014-2016.

 Worked as a Project Fellow in the UGC Major Research Project of Prof. Amrit Sen,
titled, “Rabindranath Tagore and Science” at Visva-Bharati from 2 nd May 2013 to 31 st
March 2015.
 Worked as a Research Assistant for two years in the Project of Rabindra-Bhavana, VisvaBharati, titled, “The Chronological English Writings of Rabindranath Tagore” at
Visva-Bharati in the years 2010 and 2011.
Academic Visits to Foreign Countries:
 Visited Edinburgh, Scotland from 9th to 18th March, 2015 as a Researcher in the
UGC-UKIERI Project titled— “Scottish Orientalism and the Indian Renaissance, the
Continuum of Ideas: Tagore and his Circle”, coordinated jointly by Edinburgh Napier
University, Scotland and Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, India.
 Visited Dhaka, Bangladesh to participate in the 2nd International Congress of Bengal
Studies, organized by the University of Dhaka and Bangla Academy, Dhaka,
Bangladesh from 17th to 20th December, 2011. The title of the Paper presented in the
Conference — “Western Science and Eastern Mind: Acharya Jagadish Chandra
Bose and Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray”
Teaching Experiences:
 Working as an Assistant Professor of English at Adamas University, Barasat, Kolkata
from 21 March, 2016 till date.
 Worked as an Assistant Professor of English at Seacom Skills University, Birbhum,
West Bengal from 16 September 2015 to 19 March 2016.
 Worked as an Instructor of the Spoken/Communicative English Course (an UG &
PG Programme) organized by Visva-Bharati from August 2009 to August 2015.
 Worked as a Lecturer in English (Part-time) at Durgapur Government College from
December, 2008 to February, 2009.

 Taught (as a Research Scholar of Visva-Bharati) the Communicative English Course,
a Postgraduate Programme to the Students of M. Sc, Agriculture at Palli-Siksha Bhavana
(Institute of Agriculture), Visva-Bharati from August 2010 to December 2010 & from
August 2012 to December 2012.
 Taught (as a Research Scholar of Visva-Bharati) the Communicative English Course,
an Undergraduate Programme to the students of the Bachelor of Design at Silpa-Sadana
(Institute of Rural Craft, Technology and Design), Visva-Bharati from August 2010 to
July 2011.
