Scholarship Application - General Information Learn about the Scholarship Program (25 minute video) Scholarship video information update: Do not send documents to the foundation office to be scanned. If applicant does not have access to a scanner, please go to any campus computer lab to scan and create a PDF file. City campus: computer lab is Room 460 for students to scan documents. Applicants must apply for TAP and Pell grants before being eligible to receive a foundation scholarship. When completing the student information section of STARS Online, please use an upper-case letter as the first letter of your first name, last name and city/town (example: John Doe, Buffalo). Personal information in this section is used for future correspondence. Current ECC students: Please register using your ECC student email account, if available. All hard copy documents must be scanned into a PDF format. Scanners are available at each campus in the computer lab. You may find that each document creates a .jpeg file. If so, you will need to convert the .jpeg to .pdf using a website such as www.convert-jpg-topdf.net/. ECC Web Advisor student transcripts are NOT acceptable. Each scholarship application requires a PDF formatted student transcript. Be prepared to upload this document with each scholarship application. How do I complete the high school GPA field? A. Enter a grade of “9.9” in the GPA field. In the Free Form Criteria section, for question #1 which asks for your career goals, include the brief sentence “No GPA with GED”. Q. My current GPA is under 1.0 at the moment. The STARS Online website changes my GPA (it won’t accept a GPA under 1.0). How do I complete this GPA field? A. Enter a grade of “9.9” in the GPA field. In the Free Form Criteria section, for question #1 which asks for your career goals, include the brief sentence “My current GPA is (enter GPA here)”. Letters of Reference Section Q. Do I need a letter of recommendation for each scholarship? A. Not all scholarships require letters of recommendation. Of course, you can always ask for recommendations even if the scholarship does not require it. Reviewers will consider recommendations as part of the overall scholarship awarding process. Q. Are there any specific forms I have to use? A. There are no forms but should be submitted in a standard letter form. ALL letters need to be signed by the person writing the letter. Scan and upload in PDF format. Q. To whom should I ask for a recommendation? A. Each scholarship specifies if and from whom a letter of recommendation is required. Refer to the scholarship information as listed in the scholarship book and other information posted on the ECC Foundation scholarship page. Q. Do I have to send the letters to any address or I can scan and attach them to my STARS account? A. Recommendations are to be scanned in a PDF format and uploaded as part of each scholarship submission on STARS Online. Do not email or send letters of recommendations.
