We are their champion, providing support, outreach, and education. The Navy League, both on Capitol Hill and around the country, are consistently meeting with Members of Congress to tell the sea services’ story and emphasize that as a maritime nation, we must make investments in the sea services team. EDUCATION The Navy League sponsors a weekly lunch series for Congressional staffers. The Navy League works with Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Maritime Administration legislative affairs offices to invite sea service leadership to Capitol Hill to brief staffers. Military legislative assistants, chiefs of staff, and professional staff members attend this lunch series for an overview of various programs and an opportunity to ask off the record questions. This program ensures all staffers are well-informed and up to date on the latest sea service programs. The Navy League also distributes the SeaPower Almanac and Maritime Policy Statement every year. These publications are a useful resource for Congressional staff when they have questions about the sea services. Your corporate membership supports these programs to ensure Congress is well-informed. ADVOCACY The Navy League orchestrates a biennial Fly In on Capitol Hill. The day before our Board of Directors meeting, Navy Leaguers from around the country visit congressional offices in an all-day legislative push. The Navy League has had many legislative successes thanks to this effort. OUTREACH IN THE HOME DISTRICT The Navy League’s legislative outreach extends beyond Washington. Navy Leaguers around the country are assigned to brief their member of congress every six months on each sea service. The briefs are written and updated by Navy League staff, and presented in the home district by Navy League volunteers. The Navy League ensures that Congress is hearing about the sea services in D.C. and in their home districts. SEA SERVICE PRESENCE ON CAPITOL HILL The Navy League sponsors numerous functions on Capitol Hill, including forums, joint service receptions, service birthday celebrations, award presentations and congressional caucus events. As a corporate member, you will have the opportunity to meet with defense and maritime community leadership at these events. Your support is integral to ensuring that the sea services have a sustained presence on Capitol Hill with numerous opportunities for them to tell their story to our country’s decision makers. How Navy League is DIFFERENT: n Mission-Driven Focus: n As the trusted partner of the Department of the Navy, we put our mission first. SEAPOWER Seapower magazine and its Almanac issue are official publications of the Navy League of the United States. Seapower articles cover a wide range of topics, including national defense, foreign policy, naval affairs, maritime issues, homeland security and defense research, development and procurement. Seapower coverage focuses on such areas as defense strategies, emerging technologies and ways to improve the operational concepts and managerial processes of the U.S. sea services. The principal mission of Seapower — an award-winning monthly magazine — is to educate Congress and the American people about the activities, requirements, accomplishments and concerns of the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and U.S.-flag Merchant Marine. It also provides a forum for senior sea service leaders to express their views on issues of concern. Seapower also supports and encourages the programs of the Navy League councils throughout the United States and overseas.
