A competition to identify a Gloucestershire based
sculptor to produce a sculpture that will be permanently
installed overlooking the canal at Capels Mill, Stroud
An Overview of the Competition

A unique and exciting opportunity for a Gloucestershire
sculptor to work with Pangolin Editions Sculpture
Foundry of Chalford to design & fabricate a sculpture
(max height 3m) for permanent display on a specific
site on the north bank of the Thames & Severn
Canal at Capels Mill, Stroud
The location is indicated in the pictures right

The winning sculptor will receive a cash award
of £2,500 provided by Pangolin Editions - £500 on
commencement & £2,000 on completion

The sculpture must be made from recycled, surplus
material from Pangolin’s production process

Construction will be by fabrication, welding & braising
etc. New castings are not involved

The winning sculptor will work with Pangolin Editions creative staff and will need to comply with the
company’s normal working conditions

Once installed the sculpture will become the property of The Cotswold Canals Trust (CCT)
Copyright will remain with the sculptor
Terms & Conditions
1.
The competition is open to sculptors who are resident, employed or engaged in full time study in Gloucestershire
(Including South Gloucestershire) Entrants must provide evidence of the above
2.
Selection will be based upon the quality of previous work and the applicant’s CV of up to 500 words
3.
The CV must describe the applicant’s skills & experience and why they consider they should be the chosen sculptor
4.
The submission must include up to four digital photographs of works previously completed by the applicant
5.
The digital photos must be in jpg format - file size 500kb max. File names to include the initials & surname of the applicant
6.
Applicants wishing to enter the competition should email the Stroud District Council (SDC) Canal Project Administrator

From the submissions described above a short list of up to three sculptors will be chosen by a panel of eight adjudicators to
go forward to the interview stage of the selection process. The adjudicators will be Rungwe Kingdon, Claude Koenig,
Jane Buck and Steve Maule from Pangolin; Sandra Hickmore; James Pentney; Dave Marshall SDC and Clive Field CCT
8.
By entering the competition, all applicants commit to being available for a potential interview on Tuesday 25th March 2014
9.
By entering the competition, all applicants commit to allowing sufficient time after 7th April 2014 to work with
Pangolin Editions to design, create and complete the sculpture by the deadline of 23rd May 2014
10.
The cash award of £2,500 will be made in two parts: £500 on commencement and £2,000 on completion and installation
11.
The organisers reserve the right not to proceed with the competition if entries are deemed to be of insufficiently high calibre
12.
Employees of Pangolin Editions, Stroud District Council & Cotswold Canals Trust are not eligible to apply for selection
13.
Failure to adhere to any of the Terms & Conditions detailed above will lead to disqualification
