Write Down One:
• In Rabbit, Run, John Updike uses biblical names to reveal
deeper insight into his characters and their personalities.
• In One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, McMurphy, the Chief
and the Big Nurse, are excellent examples of Sigmund
Freud’s Id, Ego and Super ego.
• In The Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck uses one family’s
journey as a metaphor for the hardships experienced by
all families during the dustbowl.
