It gives me great pleasure this June to

June is always an exciting time at Christie Lake Kids. We celebrate the success of our STAR
participants in banquets, and we prepare for the summer camp program. We host the best
fundraiser in Ottawa; Enbridge Canoe for Kids on Mooney's Bay Beach the first Saturday of every
June, and start planning to host and be recipients of a number of other golf tournaments and
fundraisers.
It gives me great pleasure this June to announce several staff and Board of Directors
appointments.
Carla Pellizzari – Treasurer
Carla is new to the Christie Lake Kids community and will take on the role of treasurer. In her
professional life Carla is the Corporate Controller & Senior Financial Officer at Holder Tractors Inc.
We are really fortunate to have an individual of Carla’s intelligence and compassion for the kids in
our community on our board.
Mike Johnson
Mike is the Network Operations Manager Enbridge Gas Distribution for the eastern region and
continues a long tradition of Enbridge employees serving as members of the Christie Lake Kids
Board of Directors. Mike is a strong advocate for the work Christie Lake Kids does in the Ottawa
community and exemplifies the Enbridge commitment to CLK and our kids.
Anne Rowan-Legg
Anne has served as a member of the Christie Lake Kids program committee prior to joining the
board in May 2014. Anne is a pediatrician at CHEO and will offer excellent insight for our board
and program staff on the impacts of growing up in poverty on children's health.
Staff Updates
We would like to announce the appointment of Natalie Benson as our new Director of Fundraising
and Communications. Natalie comes to Christie Lake Kids with over a decade of fundraising
experience in support of children and youth attending recreation and camp programs across
Canada.
In her most recent position as Director of Development for Scouts Canada; Natalie developed and
expanded the individual, corporate and government relations portfolios to reach an annual
fundraising goal of $3million.
We look forward to Natalie Joining our team and supporting our kids on July 14.
It is also with mixed feelings that we announce the departure of our long serving accountant
Sandra Smail. Sandra joined CLK in spring of 2011 and will be moving on to take on a larger
accounting role in the private sector this summer. Sandra has been a dedicated staff member and
we all wish her the very best in this new chapter of her life.
Updates from Christie Lake
Kids Camp!
Since mid-April, preparations for the summer camp sessions have gone into high-gear. There was
a high volume of camper applications this year, and the registration list was full weeks earlier than
past years. Pioneer, Voyageur, Out-tripping and Leader-In-Training (LIT) programs will run for the
full summer with a total of about 375 children and youth registered for camp.
Home visit staff have been working hard to complete phone and in-person interviews for each
camper, and are close to finishing the last set of camper interviews. The summer camp staff list
has also been finalized, with a highly skilled and experienced team of over 80 staff members. The
summer camp staff will begin training next week, and will complete training on topics such as
Fundamental Movement Skills, Mental Health, Child Protection and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention
(among many others).
CLK has also hosted a number of camp rentals, including school groups from Ashbury and Vincent
Massey. These school group rentals represent the growth of CLK’s involvement in running
education and leadership-based camp programs for Ottawa area schools. Finally, the Christie Lake
Camp grounds have benefitted greatly from corporate work groups from Enbridge, Telus, Hydro
Ottawa and Royal Bank of Canada. These work groups have each made large physical and
financial contributions towards setting the camp site up for an enjoyable and successful summer.
Inner City Updates
On May 5th, we took 50 kids to camp for our first annual May Day Camp Adventure, a one-day
outdoor recreation and arts experience. Thank you to the Inner City and Camp staff who

and the Caldwell/Bellevue team on May 30th. Through we took two losses in these matchups, the
boys had a great time reconnecting with friends from across the city and sharing
camaraderie
through the spirit of the game. We look forward to a rematch in the new STAR year.

On June 7 and 8 the LIT 3s enjoyed many activities to celebrate their year and time in LIT. They
started off with a wonderful day racing in the Enbridge Canoe For Kids, then off to SkyZone for an
afternoon of high flying craziness. In the evening the LITs enjoyed taking in the beautiful sights of
downtown Perth and a great meal at Fiddleheads. The evening ended with a night up at camp,
hanging, playing board games and remembering the great times in LIT. Sunday we made and ate
wonderful meals together and enjoyed a swim to Hydro Ottawa Sustainable Leadership Centre. A
wonderful way to end a wonderful year!
On Thursday June 12th CLK Staff facilitated a full day positive culture workshop with Ashbury
College’s House Council Members. The day included an exploration of the three Ashbury Values of

integrates these values into their year next year!
On Monday June 16th, 24 Ashbury College grade 12 leaders were up at CLK Camp to prepare of
their grade 9 camp in September. The leaders learned about leadership and camp counselor skills

of the different community groups who have been fundraising on behalf of Christie Lake Kids.

Delaney and the 33 Signals Foundation for organizing such a great event.
This past Wednesday we held our second annual community recognition event. This year we
recognized our top Individual, Corporate and Youth volunteer and in-kind contributors. It
is always fantastic to see how many community leaders come together to support our
organization as well as many others. We would not be where we are today without their
support.
