Select the type of tab you want, and simply click on the Ruler to place the tab stop. • Right Tab • Text will flow backwards as you type • Left Tab • Traditional move to the left across the page • Center Tab • Centers your text at that point – even if it isn’t the center of the page Hold down the ALT key for accurate measurements. 11 Set Up Your Workspace Tabs • Rather wrap your mind around a list? They can be used for words or even pictures. • Tables are flexible. You can easily add rows, change the width of the columns, and even make the borders between the “cells” invisible. 23 Word Tools Make Life Easy Tables • Click the Insert Tab and click Table •Quick select a table using the grid shown. Just point at the size table you want and click. •Or click Insert Table for a dialog box where you can enter the number of columns and rows you need. 24 Word Tools Make Life Easy Tables • Use the Tab key or the arrows to move from one “cell” to another. Hitting Tab in the last cell of the table will add another row. • Regular formatting rules apply inside tables; select text and you can change the font, size, or justification within the cell. • Click this arrow symbol in the upper left corner of the table to select the entire table: 25 Word Tools Make Life Easy Labels • Labels are tables with invisible borders. • Microsoft & label manufacturers work together to make labels easy. • Click the Mailings tab. • Click the Labels icon on the far left. 26 Word Tools Make Life Easy Labels •Click Labels to open a dialog box. •This is where you select the size of your labels. Use your manufacturer’s item number, or grab a ruler. 27 For a full page of the same label: •Type right into Address box. •A right mouse button click will allow you to change the font. •Send directly to the printer, or click New Document for additional editing. For a page full of different labels: •Leave the Address box blank •Click New Document. •You’ll get a precisely measured table that you can complete. 28 Word Tools Make Life Easy Envelopes • Click the Mailings tab • Click the Envelope icon on the far left •Type right into the boxes provided. •A right mouse button click will allow you to change the font. •Send directly to the printer, or add it as a final page of your document. 29 Going Forward • Learning Library Express & lynda.com – online computer skills tutorials • The Crystal Lake Public Library subscribes to these services.
