Julius Caesar Gets Assassinated

Just in, Julius Caesar is
dead!!!!! Brutus, a Roman noble led
the plot to assassinate Caesar.
Calpurnia, Caesar’s wife begged him
not to go to the meeting of the Senate
because she had dreams that night
that she was holding his dead body.
No one will ever forget this date,
March 15th. Brutus said “This was a
political statement”.
Reports say that he was
murdered at a Senate meeting. Also,
they murdered him because they
resented Caesar’s power and felt he
needed to be killed. By killing Caesar,
they would restore the power to the
Senate and the people of Rome. Caesar
was sent to die on the foot of
Pompey’s statue, in the open and a
public place. Although Caesar was
warned by the soothsayer to be aware
of danger on the Idea of March, he did
not think that anything would happen
to him. He was killed by a group of
Senators and stabbed over twenty
times. The conspirators stabbed
Caesar furiously with their knives and
the loss of blood made him fall. Then
Brutus raised his dagger, and Caesars
last words to Brutus were “Even you
my child?”
The senators wanted Caesar
dead. His friends wanted him dead.
They respected Caesar greatly as a
military leader, but resented his policy
of reconciliation. The final
conspirators were idealists who
believed in the Republic. They wanted
to assassinate Caesar because they
thought “the very thought of their
beloved Rome ruled by a single man
was unbearable.”
Gaius Trebonius had worked
with Caesar, ever since when Caesar
was in the triumvirate. He organized
the siege of Massalia during early
months of the Civil War and later
fought Caesar in Spain. Cassius was
violent and ruthless. Caesar always
respected Cassius because he was
known as a man who could get things
done. He served under Caesars old
triumvirate partner, Crassus.
