The Countdown to Exams: Year 11
prepare for summer success!
Year 11 students are entering into one
of the most crucial times of their Essa
education, exam preparation. With exams
fast approaching, students and staff
are putting everything into achieving a
fantastic set of results this summer.
Essa Principal Mr Patrick Ottley-O’Connor
is very optimistic about the potential
of the students, saying “Year 11 have
shown a fantastic attitude to their studies;
they are a wonderful year group who
have worked very hard throughout their
five years at Essa Academy. The key to
students achieving their targets is excellent
preparation. Without good preparation,
exams can be stressful. We will support all
of our students to ensure that they plan
carefully and revise systematically in order
to sit their exams with confidence”.
ESSA students know how important
this time is. They have been working so
hard on their exam preparation and that
will continue all the way through until all
of their exams are completed. Teachers
and staff are supporting by arranging
extra lessons and revision sessions. It’s
up to Year 11 to make the most of this
opportunity and achieve their goals.
We wish Year 11 all the success this
summer but work will most certainly not
stop until we get there!
GCSE Results Day is on Thursday 24th
August 2017.

Manchester University visits
ESSA Academy
Year 7 take part in an important well-being study with
students from the highly acclaimed university.
On the 13th January students from the
University of Manchester visited Essa
Academy to carry out a project with our
Year 7 students. The study involved a
measure of mental health and well-being.
This will help Essa Academy to tailor
accurate interventions, ensuring that
we provide appropriate support for all
students, equipping them with the right
tools to allow them to succeed.
Teacherm Mrs Yates said “Today was a
great opportunity for us to work with
Manchester University on what will be a
very important study. I was very impressed
with the response from our students”.
Researchers commented on how well
behaved the Essa pupils were and the
great enthusiasm shown on the day.
Results of the study will be available in
February.
