Summer Solstice The summer solstice is the longest day of the year

Summer Solstice
The summer solstice is the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere (the solstice occurs in
December in the southern hemisphere). Pagans mark this day as a celebration of the life giving
power of the sun. They believe that the Goddess takes power at the beginning of spring,
and so the solstice is the height of her power.
Pagans celebrate by gathering outside, often around important sites like
Stonehenge, to mark the sun rise.
Activity Ideas
Any activities relating to the sun can easily be linked to the solstice. For example, you
could use colouring sheets with pictures of the sun, or you can buy sun catchers, which are clear
plastic designs which can be painted and hung where they will catch the light.
