It's almost race day! Yes, it's nearly time to Run the Vineyards with Cloverdale Vineyard Races on Sunday, October 23! This email contains important information to help you have your best day possible. Please read it all. All races are SOLD OUT! We're thrilled by the positive response from all of you, and wish that we could invite more runners to join us, but we cannot. As such, there will be NO registration at Packet Pickup or on race day. (For your friends and family who can't make it this year -- and for you, as well! -- registration is open for next year!) Packet Pickup Packet pickup will be available Friday, Saturday, and race day Sunday. Come on down to Healdsburg Running Company (map), pick up your race packet and any last-minute race gear, and check out their awesome selection of shoes, apparel, and more! Friday, 5 pm - 8 pm Saturday, 2 pm - 6 pm While in Healdsburg, drop by sponsor Bear Republic Brewing Company's Brewpub, just down the street (map), for some delicious food and fantastic Sonoma County ales! If you can't make it before the race, no worries -- we'll take care of you race day Sunday morning, starting at 6 am. Start and Finish All races start and finish at the historic Asti Winery at 26150 Asti Road, Cloverdale (map). Short version directions: coming from either the north or south on highway 101, exit at Asti Road, turn east, and you're there! Start times are: o Marathon: 7:30 am o Half Marathon: 7:30 am o 10K: 8:30 am o 5K: 8:30 am Free parking is available at the winery. Once the parking lots are full, there's parking along Asti Road. Parking attendants will guide you appropriately. Bag check will be available at the start / finish. However, we can't deliver your gear to an aid station for you. On the Course Aid stations are 1.5 to 2.5 miles apart on all courses. Restrooms will be sited at every aid station. Hydration and nutrition at the aid stations will feature Skratch Labs hydration, water, and fruit. Weather should be beautiful! The forecast (as of the morning of Saturday the 15th) calls for a low of 49 the night before and a high of 75 on race day. You can check the latest forecast here. Course maps. As all races take place in private vineyards, there are no street names, and maps would only make matters more confusing. The course will be very well marked with chalk, signs, and ribbon. Traffic shouldn't be an issue. 5K and 10K runners will never be on the road. Marathon and half-marathon runners will only be on the road going to and from the vineyard entrance, about 1,000 feet. However, as always, please use caution! About Running the Vineyards Variable surfaces are inevitable when running through a working vineyard. While the majority of the course is on packed, groomed roads, some sections are less wellgroomed dirt. Please use caution and watch for ruts, bumps, gopher holes, rocks, and puddles. Decision points occur several times on the course. There will be large signs with directions for each race, and instructions based on whether it's your first or second time by that point. Please be mentally prepared to pay attention so that you stay on your course. Distances for all four races are as close as we can get them. Countless hours with multiple GPS units and apps and a surveyor's wheel have shown us the variability between sources. If your GPS shows a slightly different distance, please know that we got as close as possible to the distance you signed up for. Staying on course is vital to a fair race and accurate results. All running is on vineyard roads, and ambiguous spots will be marked. Please stay on the course. If you go off the road and cut a corner or run through a field, you are off course, and may be disqualified. No mile markers. Due to the overlapping nature of the four races, we would need dozens of separate mile markers for each distance, further confusing and cluttering the course. Distances will be posted at each aid station. After your victorious finish Brunch will be served to all runners (and available to supporters for just $7.50). Replenish with a full, hot meal including pancakes, eggs, and sausage. Live music will help you celebrate with your friends, family, and fellow runners. Free photos by our professional photographers will be ready for you to pick up. Bear Republic ales will be served at no charge to marathon and half marathon participants, and just $5 for everyone else. Gallo wines are free for marathon and half marathon runners, and just $5 for friends and family and 5K/10K runners. Raffle basket. Thanks to the leaders and runners of Sonoma County Galloway, we're raffling off a Runner's Dream Basket with a value of over $700! Pick up your tickets at the race admin booth! Win a free entry into next year's race! Complete a review of our race on RaceRaves by November 6, and you'll be entered into a drawing for a free entry into any distance in 2017. Thanks for joining us! We look forward to welcoming you to Cloverdale.
