Event FAQs 1. When does the Jurassic Coast Mighty Hike take place? The event takes place on Saturday 8 July 2017. 2. How long is the hike? Approximately 22.7 miles. 3. Where does it start? It starts in Lodmoor Country Park, Weymouth, DT4 7SX 4. Where does it finish? The exact finish venue is still to be confirmed but will be close to Corfe Castle. 5. What’s the route? Here’s the route map and elevation graph. The route is approximately 22.7 miles long with a total elevation of 1,145 metres or 3,757 feet. Please note that the route could change depending on weather and health & safety requirements. You will be provided with a hard-copy map on the day and the route will be fully marked by arrows with regular check-points. 6. What time should I arrive in the morning? Registration will take place from 6.30am until 7.30am at Lodmoor Country Park, Weymouth, DT4 7SX. 7. When does the hike start? The hike will start in two waves at 7.15am and 8am. We will email you an online booking form in January for you to select your preferred start time. 8. When does the hike finish? We estimate that people will take between 7.5 and 13 hours to complete the hike so will expect people to be arriving at Corfe Castle between 2.45pm and 9pm. 9. Do I have to complete the route in a certain time? There is a 13-hour cut-off from the time of the last start wave. If you think you will need more than 13 hours to complete the route, please ensure you select the first wave at 7.15am when we send you the online booking form in January. This will mean you have 13.75 hours to reach the finish line. 10. Can someone walk with me who is not a fundraiser? We’re afraid not. The aim of the event is to raise as much money as possible for people affected by cancer so everyone who walks on the day will need to pay the £25 registration fee and each meet the minimum fundraising amount of £250. 11. How many people take part? We hope to have a minimum of 700 people taking part. 12. What is the minimum age to take part? The minimum age for the event is 18. However, teenagers aged 14 and over can take part if they are accompanied by an adult and a parental consent form is completed. They will still need to pay the £25 registration fee and meet the minimum fundraising amount of £250. 13. Can I bring my dog? We’re afraid not. The event organisers, Action Challenge, are unable to accommodate dogs. 14. Is car parking provided? Yes. Free car parking is available at Lodmoor Country Park, Weymouth. A shuttle service will return you to your car from the finish in Corfe Castle. 15. How do I get back to my car after I finish? A free shuttle service will run every 30 – 45 minutes from the finish in Corfe Castle back to Lodmoor Country Park in Weymouth. 16. What if I don’t have a car? Weymouth Rail Station is a 6-minute taxi ride to the start at Lodmoor Country Park. A free shuttle service will run to Wareham Rail Station at the finish. 17. Are refreshments provided? Yes. This is a fully supported event. There will be a full buffet lunch at half-way and hot food at the finish. There will also be regular refuelling stops along the route where substantial snacks and drinks will be provided. 18. Can you cater for my dietary requirements? Yes. You will be asked on the registration form if you have any dietary requirements. If you forget to tell us on the form, please email us and we will pass on your requirements to the event organisers. 19. What about accommodation? Due to the early start you may find it easier to stay close by the night before. We suggest you stay in the Weymouth area so you are close to the Lodmoor Country Park. Campsites, B&Bs and hotels are all available – just search online for accommodation around the postcode DT4 7SX. 20. How fit do I need to be? The challenge is a long, sustained event and requires a good level of fitness. Whilst within the capability of anyone who walks regularly, it should not be underestimated. We will provide you with a comprehensive training guide to help you prepare. 21. Can I run? We’re afraid not. This is a fully supported event and all arrangements have been based on walking pace. Runners will be considerably faster and therefore support along the route will not be in place. 22. Can my bags be transported from the start to the finish? Yes. There will be a baggage drop facility in Lodmoor Country Park, Weymouth. Your bags will be transported for you to collect at the finish in Corfe Castle. Baggage is left entirely at your own risk. 23. What happens if I fall ill or get injured on the event? On the day, you will be given an emergency number to contact should you need any assistance whilst enroute. There will also be regular checkpoints where you can talk to medical and event staff. 24. Who organises the event? The event is conceived and operated by Action Challenge, ATOL 6296, whose Terms & Conditions apply.
