Hoeing’s Headlines
4th Grade Reading- We have started on The
Westing Game and we are focusing on the changes
in the main characters within the story. We are also
moving along well on our paragraph writing and we
will be spending some time next week on subject/verb
agreement. We will not be having a Caesar’s quiz
until after spring break.
3rd Grade Reading- We are really moving through
our reading of The Wizard of Oz! We are making
maps of the land of Oz by depicting the events of the
story and relating them to the setting. The kids are
loving this project! We continue to work on paragraph
writing and we will work on subject/verb agreement
next week. We will not be having a vocab test until
after spring break.
5th Grade Math- We will be finishing up Unit 6 on
Monday. We will be completing a study guide on
Tuesday and the unit test will be on Wednesday.
Clendening’s Corner
3rd grade reading: This has been a crazy schedule
week. IREAD went well..it’s nice to have that behind us
for this year. We hope to wrap up Stone Fox before
Spring Break, so we can start fresh with our final novel
of the year when we get back. We shall see...it’s an
ambitious goal, but I think we can do it!!!
4th grade reading: Your child has homework this
weekend! They are to read chapters 13 and 14.
It is essential that your child keep up with our reading!!
We are still on target to finish Bud, Not Buddy by next
Thursday. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
4th grade science: I hope your child has shared with
you about all the fun adventures from FARM DAY. It
was a bit chilly, but it was worth it! FFA/Farm Bureau
and the Purdue Extension Office do a great job of
hosting this event.
3rd grade science: We will be covering the following
units this nine weeks: plants, simple machines and
sound/light. This week, we focused on comparing and
contrasting plants and animals, as well as essential
vocabulary for our plant unit. Stay tuned for more
science after break!
Dresslar Details
3rd and 4th went over their next Word Study
units. We did not have the tests because of
IREAD and Farm Day. We did however, make
sure that we understood the concepts with work
in class. We also took one last look at prefixes
and suffixes. Word Study tests will begin again
after Spring Break. Words will come home on
that Monday.
3rd grade has moved over to Science with Miss
Clendening for a few weeks.
4th grade History we are looking at how and
why people began moving into Indiana after we
became a state. Our next Indiana adventure will
be slavery and the Civil War.
I wish each of you a restful break.
Martin’s Math
3rd: Our focus this week in Unit 6 is
multiplying extended facts. We are
multiplying bigger numbers by factors we
know, by breaking down the bigger
numbers into smaller numbers and then
adding them together to get the answer. It is
an intro to the partial products algorithm,
which they learn at the end of 3rd/
beginning of 4th grade.
4th: We are working in Unit 6 as well. Our
focus this week is division. We are going to
review the partial quotients algorithm at the
end of this week/ beginning of next. It is
crucial for all 4th graders to know their basic
math facts in order to divide, or they are
going to have a hard time with this. Please
work on it at home if they need help.
