UA PRSSA EXECUTIVE OFFICER POSITIONS!
(duties, eligibility and character quality expectations)!

In order to be considered for an executive officer position, you must submit a board
application and complete an interview with the current chapter president and faculty
adviser. Once all interviews are complete, the board will present a proposed slate of
officers to the chapter membership for review. A membership vote on the slate of officers
will be conducted at the April chapter meeting. The newly elected officers must attend a
board succession meeting prior to the end of the semester to ensure a smooth transition in
chapter leadership. All elected officers are expected to be active members of UA
PRSSA’s nationally affiliated firm Capstone Agency. !

President!
Duties: The president is responsible for overseeing all the various accounts, campaigns
and committees within the chapter. He/she should maintain constant contact with the
entire board to stay up-to-date on the initiatives of the group. He/she should schedule and
run the monthly board and membership meetings. Some of the major duties of the
president include recruitment, communicating with Nationals, assisting in fundraising
efforts, proofreading blogs, design work and news releases and contributing to the
monthly newsletter. He/she needs to be available to assist whenever needed.
Eligibility: The president must be a rising senior who has previously held a PRSSA
executive board position (preferably vice president) for two consecutive semesters. The
candidate must have previously attended a national PRSSA conference or assembly at
some point in his or her executive board career. The candidate must be strongly
recognized for his or her work within the college by the administration and students. !

Character: The president needs to possess good organization, professionalism,
assertiveness, humility and passion. He/she needs to be prepared to handle a lot of the
“behind the scenes” work within the chapter. The president needs to attend the Alabama
PRSA meetings on the first Tuesday of every month as representative of UA PRSSA.
The president is the face of the chapter. He/she needs to recognize that with the
president’s title comes a lot of specific obligations. The way the president carries himself
or herself is a reflection on the chapter, the department and the university. !

Vice President!
Duties: The vice president is responsible for securing a relevant and interesting speaker
for each month’s meeting. He/she is also responsible for the planning of the workshop(s)
over the course of the year. The VP is also responsible for applying for appropriate
awards throughout the course of the year. The VP should also assist the president in the
planning and execution of all recruitment activities.
Eligibility: The vice president must be at least a rising junior, preferably one who has
previously held a PRSSA executive board or committee leader position prior to running
for vice president. The candidate must have taken JN 311 and can demonstrate strong,
ethical writing skills, as one of the biggest projects of the vice president is applying the
chapter for the various awards given at the national conference. The candidate must be
strongly recognized for his or her work within the college by the administration and
students.!

Character: The vice president needs to possess good organization, professionalism,
assertiveness, humility and passion. He/she is the right hand to the president. The
candidate needs to be willing to assist the president in an effective and timely manner.
The vice president needs to possess a strong desire to fulfill the presidential role in his or
her senior year. He/she needs to recognize that with the vice president’s title comes a lot
of specific obligations. The way the vice president carries himself or herself is a
reflection on the chapter, the department and the university. !

Vice President of Finance!
Duties: The vice president of finance is responsible for all issues regarding chapter
finances, including determining if reimbursement for expenditures is appropriate and
working with the Fundraising Committee Leader to keep the chapter finances in order.
He/she is also responsible for working with the Financial Affairs Committee to secure
funding for conference attendees, promotion purposes and speaker accommodations.
He/she should also deposit membership checks regularly, as well as continuously update
the secretary with the new member emails as received. He/she must also submit
necessary membership documents to Nationals by the deadline.
Eligibility: The vice president of finance position is open to all rising sophomores, juniors
or seniors. This position works closely with the president, vice president and the advisor
so timeliness and organization are key. Being efficient in Microsoft Excel is also a strong
aspect of the job. !

Character: The vice president of finance needs to possess good organization,

needs within the chapter. He/she needs to recognize that with the vice president of

Secretary!
Duties: The secretary is primarily responsible for all communication via email with the
membership in regards to chapter activities, national announcements and job/internship
opportunities. He/she should regularly check the UA PRSSA Gmail account, respond to
inquiries and input new member email addresses in a timely manner. The secretary is
responsible for keeping up with the minutes at each executive board meeting and chapter
meeting.
Eligibility: The secretary position is open to all rising sophomores, juniors or seniors. The
candidate needs to possess excellent writing skills and to be efficient in timeliness and
organization. !

Director of Public Relations!
Duties: The director of public relations is responsible for designing fliers to promote
chapter meetings and all recruitment materials, such as push cards or social media images.
He/she runs the PR Committee and is responsible for managing contributions to UA
PRSSA’s blog. The committee assists in design work and helps construct news releases
to distribute to the various student media accounts. The director of PR has freedom and
flexibility to promote UA’s PRSSA chapter in a variety of innovative ways.
Eligibility: The director of public relations is open to all rising sophomores, juniors and
seniors. The candidate needs have excellent professionalism as he/she handles all the PR
accounts within the chapter. !

Character: The director of public relations needs to possess excellent writing skills and
excellent organization. Experience using the Adobe Creative Suite is a must. He/she
needs to be able to take direction well and respond in a timely manner. He/she needs to
recognize that with the director of public relations title comes a lot of specific obligations.

Director of Web-based Communications!
Duties: The director of Web-based communications manages the overall appearance of
the website and the blog, keeping it updated with the recent initiatives within the chapter,
and ensuring it has a clean and professional appearance.
Eligibility: The director of Web-based communications is open to all rising sophomores,
juniors and seniors. The candidate needs to be excellent at Web design. The candidate
needs to be organized and timely in updating the website fast and efficiently. !

Character: The director of Web-based communications needs to possess strong Web
development skills and knowledge of basic HTML coding (the chapter website operates
on a Weebly platform). He/she needs to be a fast learner who takes direction well and can
produce work in an organized and timely manner. He/she needs to recognize that with the
director of Web-based communications title comes a lot of specific obligations. The way
the Web-based communications director carries himself or herself is a reflection on the
chapter, the department and the university.!

Capstone Agency Firm Director!
Duties: The firm director is responsible for serving as a liaison between UA PRSSA and
Capstone Agency. He/she should keep the chapter and PRSSA board updated on the
work of Capstone Agency. The firm director should be prepared to manage all the current
clients of the agency accounts to produce work for clients that is creative, innovative and
effective.
Eligibility: The firm director of Capstone Agency must be a junior or senior who has
been involved in agency leadership. He/she must have been in the agency for a year. The
director is also required to be a paid member of PRSSA. !

assertiveness, humility and passion. He/she needs to be prepared to handle a lot of the

Social Media Committee Leader!
Duties: The social media committee leader is responsible for updating UA PRSSA’s
various social media accounts with the newest initiatives and news within PRSSA and
managing a large committee. He/she should also livestream the monthly chapter meetings
online via Ustream.
Eligibility: The social media committee leader is open to all rising sophomores, juniors
and seniors. This position requires selecting and directing committee members. The
candidate must possess good leadership skills and a strong knowledge about the newest
social media accounts. !

organization skills. He/she needs to be able to take direction well and respond in a timely

Publications Committee Leader!
Duties: This person is responsible for strong and ethical writing, and is responsible for
updating the chapter’s members on recent events and initiatives via a variety of outlets,
including the chapter blog and newsletter.
Eligibility: The publications committee leader is open to all rising sophomores, juniors
and seniors. This position requires selecting and directing committee members. The
candidate must possess a strong knowledge of email communication by knowing how to
conduct online newsletters, and must manage all blog submissions. !

Character: The publications committee leader needs to possess excellent writing and
organization skills. He/she needs to be able to take direction well and respond in a timely
manner. He/she needs to recognize that with the title of newsletter committee leader
comes a lot of specific obligations. The way the newsletter committee leader carries

Fundraising Committee Leader!
Duties: The candidate is responsible for organizing and conducting all fundraising
initiatives for the chapter. This person works closely with the president and VP of finance.
Eligibility: The fundraising committee leader is open to all rising sophomores, juniors
and seniors. He/she needs to be extremely organized in managing a group of people to
effectively get the job done. !

Character: The fundraising committee leader needs to be organized, enthusiastic, driven
and passionate. He/she needs to be assertive and demonstrate strong leadership within
his/her committee. He/she needs to recognize that with the title of fundraising committee
leader comes a lot of specific obligations. The way the fundraising committee leader
carries himself or herself is a reflection on the chapter, the department and the university. !
