LOCATION
Baltimore’s Inner Harbor has many stories to
tell, from its heyday in the 18th century as the
nation’s leading shipbuilding site, to a major
site for oyster canning, steel working, railroad
building, immigration port and military supply
center. In 1980, the Inner Harbor area underwent
a major revitalization with the addition of many
attractions, hotels, restaurants and shops. Today,
the Inner Harbor is a major tourist destination and
port of call for cruise ships.
Visit Baltimore, Inner Harbor. Retrieved January 16, 2015. http://
baltimore.org/neighborhoods-maps-transportation/inner-harbor
Baltimore’s history and attractions have allowed
the city to become a strong tourist destination on
the East Coast. In 2013, the city hosted 23.9 million
visitors, who spent $5.15 billion. The Baltimore
Visitor Center, which is operated by Visit
Baltimore, is located on Light Street in the Inner
Harbor. Much of the city’s tourism centers around
the Inner Harbor, with the National Aquarium
being Maryland’s top tourist destination.
Other popular tourist destinations throughout
the city include Oriole Park at Camden Yards,
Fort McHenry, the Mount Vernon and Fells Point
neighborhoods, and museums such as the Walters
Art Museum, Sports Legends Museum at Camden
Yards and the Baltimore Museum of Industry.

“A Night at the Races”
Theme Party & Entertainment
Come visit the “Charm City” and discover an
ideal getaway that extends beyond the Orioles and
Old Bay-seasoned crabs. Baltimore is a colorful,
diverse destination that is Maryland’s largest city
and economic hub, known for its beautiful harbor;
quirky, distinct neighborhoods; sports teams, its
unique museums, and the Preakness Stakes. Come
to Convention early, as the Preakness is scheduled
for Saturday, May 17. Baltimore’s rich history
combines with its unforgettable modern culture to
offer visitors an inviting experience ranging from
fine cuisine in Little Italy to the masterpieces on
display at the Baltimore Museum of Art. With its
history and contemporary style, it is no wonder
that Baltimore is one of America’s most popular
destinations.
With more than 620,000 residents, Baltimore’s
population is growing again for the first time
in decades laying claim that the city is on the
move! In addition to being called the “Charm
City,” Baltimore’s diverse heritage can be traced
through its many nicknames such as “a City of
Neighborhoods,” “The Monumental City” (coined
by sixth President John Quincy Adams in 1827),
and its more controversial 19th-century sobriquet
of “Mobtown.” These nicknames have contributed
to the mystique of a City where it was called
“hometown” by the likes of writer Edgar Allan
Poe, jazz musician James “Eubie” Blake, singer
Billie Holiday and baseball legend George Herman
“Babe” Ruth. As historians agree, Baltimore’s role
in the War of 1812 and Francis Scott Key’s writing
of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” have contributed to
the city’s national importance and significance.
Baltimore’s Inner Harbor is an attraction in itself!
Surrounding this urban waterfront park, you’ll be
able to enjoy some of America’s best restaurants,
relax at a multitude of spas and discover world
renown places to visit including the breathtaking
National Aquarium, featuring more than 16,000
animals, from sharks to a giant sea turtle. Not to
be outdone, the Maryland Science Center includes
two-story dinosaurs and interactive exhibits that
will entertain the whole family. Just a short ride
away, the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore’s Druid Hill
Park engages young and young-at-heart with the
giraffe-feeding station and much more. You can
also expect to be impressed by the U.S. Lacrosse
National Headquarters featuring the Lacrosse
Museum and National Hall of Fame. And, if it’s the
unexpected you seek, you’ll be talking about the
oddities in Ripley’s Believe or Not! for weeks!
Visiting Baltimore boasts the chance to see
American history, architecture, museums, libraries,
art galleries, retail shops and so much more.
Embrace all of Baltimore’s unique opportunities
and see the many attractions that reveal the true
charm of this city.
